Who we are looking for You are curious, ask questions, and conduct your own research if there is something you do not yet know. You enjoy making connections and deepening your technical knowledge. Coming up with new solutions suits you. You do not settle for the first available solution when you know it can be smarter, more efficient, or better. In addition, you never lose sight of practical application. A satisfied customer and a high-quality solution—that is what gives you energy.
Working independently suits you well and you take responsibility for your work. You dare to make choices and when you do something, you fully commit to it! You meet your agreements, but where that is not possible, you raise the alarm in a timely manner. You have a flexible mindset and enjoy taking on both the design and the associated drafting work. Furthermore:
The role
A lock gate weighing tens of tons that opens and closes in a controlled manner. A bridge that starts moving at exactly the right moment. Or an existing installation that, after a thorough renovation, functions reliably for years to come. Behind those movements lies a world of electrical and control engineering. Familiar territory for a hardware engineer, but with a very different environment as your workplace. As a hardware engineer at SWARCO, you design the installations that make all of this possible. From the first design to the moment you see outside that everything works exactly as you envisioned it.
What you'll do
An existing lock whose control system is being replaced. A new electrical and control installation that you design from the very first principles. Or a smaller system within a larger renovation project. As a hardware engineer at SWARCO, you work on electrical and control installations for bridges, locks, and weirs. From our team in Echt, you are involved from the initial survey to the moment your design is commissioned on-site.
That begins with going to see it yourself. How is the existing installation constructed? What must be preserved and what will be replaced? Together with the lead engineer, you investigate the client's requirements and determine what is needed. Where possible, you already contribute ideas for the technical solution during the quotation or tender phase. Subsequently, you take responsibility for the hardware design. You make technical choices and work them out yourself into electrical schematics and drawings.
In doing so, you work closely with the software engineer and the lead engineer. Each from their own field of expertise, but always on the same installation. You coordinate how the hardware and software connect to each other and discuss the choices that influence each other's work. The lead engineer monitors the whole and reviews your designs. Within that collaboration, you are given the space to independently research and develop solutions.
And you remain involved when the design is implemented. You accompany the team to the project location and support the testing and commissioning. This way, you see how your design functions in practice. From the control system you devised to the movement of a lock gate: you are there when it all comes together.
Alongside the projects, there is room to organize the engineering work itself more intelligently. How can we further standardize designs? Which components can we reuse and where can we automate steps? There is still much to be developed there. Your ideas can therefore find their way not only to an installation, but also to the way we do our work as a team.
