The role
The enormous investment challenge facing Schiphol in the coming years requires good steering and planning of projects. From large new construction to small renovation projects, it must be clear in advance when execution can or sometimes must take place.
As a Strategic Portfolio Advisor, you provide direction to this integrated portfolio steering. You translate ambitions and developments into portfolio scenarios, make consequences and dilemmas explicit, and advise senior management on the choices needed to keep the portfolio achievable and predictable. In doing so, you explicitly look beyond individual projects, programs, and organizational units. You combine data and analyses with experience and professional judgment. You create support for decisions, but also dare to challenge existing assumptions, priorities, and plans when the coherence or feasibility of the total portfolio demands it. How you achieve results within this? That is up to you. We trust the way you establish connections with other people.
In this role, stakeholder management is not an end in itself. You know when connection is needed to reach a supported solution, but you are also able to provide professional counterweight. You create movement without always having a formal mandate and make clear what the consequences are when priorities, capacity, and ambitions are not in balance with each other.
What you'll do
- directing the creation of an integrated and manageable portfolio, in which strategic priorities, business demand, delivery capacity, financial frameworks, dependencies, risks, and important milestones converge.
- developing and challenging portfolio scenarios on, among other things, value, manufacturability, feasibility, capacity, affordability, and operational impact, and translating these into concrete choices and consequences.
- acting as an independent and firm advisor to senior management during complex portfolio trade-offs and decision-making. You reduce facts, uncertainties, and sometimes conflicting interests to clear scenarios, consequences, and a substantiated advice.
- translating complex portfolio information into sharp analyses and governance-relevant insights, which improve the predictability and performance of the portfolio, so that management can steer in a timely manner on developments, deviations, risks, and opportunities.
- preparing and supporting decision-making for senior management and governing bodies, whereby you reduce complex portfolio issues to their essence and make clear which choices are necessary.
- further professionalizing portfolio management within Schiphol Infrastructure by contributing to better ways of working, stronger decision-making, and an increasingly integrated way of steering the portfolio based on your experience.
How you'll work
These are just a few of our employment conditions that belong to this position (based on a 36-hour work week). Schiphol has even more to offer you. For the complete overview of all employment conditions, go to Employment Conditions - Working at Schiphol.
Nice to know (you)
-
You play a key role in the integrated steering of the Schiphol Infrastructure investment portfolio and connect strategic ambitions to a realistic and actionable portfolio.
-

-
We are going for it: Schiphol must become one of the top 3 European airports.
You've got this
For this position, we are looking for an experienced portfolio professional who can oversee complexity, quickly get to the core, and move comfortably in an environment where major interests and scarce resources converge. In any case, for this position you have:
You are therefore not just someone who provides insight into the portfolio, but someone who, through overview, experience, and professional judgment, helps determine which choices are necessary to successfully realize the portfolio as a whole.
