Requirements

What we're looking for

  • Experience with senior-level stakeholder management. You have demonstrable experience in building relationships and conducting substantive conversations with management, boards, or executives (for example as a consultant, account manager, project manager, or in a similar advisory role); a background specifically as a Security Officer or CISO is valuable, but not a hard requirement.

  • Knowledge and experience with information security. You have demonstrable knowledge and experience with information security and want to develop further into a substantive sparring partner. Experience with risk management, standard frameworks, and legislation belongs here (for example ISO27001, NIS2, DORA, GDPR) and you are motivated to delve deeper into these.

  • Strategic thinking ability. You can weigh risks from the customer's business context and translate them into something executives can actually decide with.

  • Holistic view. You have a sense for the interplay between organization, technology, and behavior, and the willingness to learn further from colleagues in the Northwave network.

  • Advisory skills. You are strong in building trust, creating support, and conducting conversations at the executive level, even when the message is difficult.

  • Communication. Clear and persuasive in both Dutch and English, both written and oral.

  • Independence. Well-organized and structured, with the ability to (learn to) manage your own portfolio and priorities.

  • Collaboration. You enjoy working together within multidisciplinary customer teams and with colleagues from Red Team, Blue Team, Awareness, and the project team.

The role

Enabling customers to safely continue their primary business by providing direction for their information security and privacy as a trusted advisor, and reducing risks to a level that matches their strategy and context.

What you'll do

  • Be a reliable interlocutor for customers at a tactical and strategic level, all the way up to the boardroom

  • Make risks to the customer's primary business insightable and reduce them through appropriate organizational, technical, and behavioral measures

  • Build, maintain, and demonstrably make the information security and privacy management system work at the customer

  • Realize compliance as a logical outcome of good security management, not as an end in itself

  • Customer relationship and strategic advice. Build a long-term relationship with your customers, understand their core business, and advise at a tactical and strategic level on risks, priorities, and measures.

  • Translating risks into action. Translate abstract information security and privacy issues into concrete, achievable solutions that fit the maturity and ambition of the customer.

  • Realizing management systems. Initiate and guide changes in the customer's security and privacy management system, and monitor implementation and continuity.

  • Stakeholder management at board level. You regularly engage with management teams, boards and executives such as a CIO, CISO, CFO or COO - giving them insight into the cyber threat landscape, their risk position and progress on improvement plans, in language that aligns with théir priorities.

  • Holistic approach. Determine when business, technical, or behavioral measures are needed and involve the right colleagues from the Northwave network.

  • Representing Northwave. Act as the face of an organization at the customer that is seen as an authority in the field of integrated information security.

What does success look like in this role

A permanent position with your own customer portfolio, with clear risk insights and accepted improvement plans at the executive level

  • The management system at the customer is demonstrably in motion, with visible progress on the priorities that matter to the business

  • Smooth collaboration with the broader customer team (privacy, information security projects, Red Team, Blue Team, Awareness), acting as a director towards the customer

  • Customers experience you as someone who makes complex issues understandable and helps executives to make well-founded decisions

Who you are and where we can support a learning curve

You don't need to have all the knowledge and experience in house from day one; we offer space to grow in this role. What is essential: you are naturally strong at building relationships with senior stakeholders. You feel just as comfortable in a conversation with an IT manager as in a boardroom with a CFO or COO, and you know how to build trust without hiding behind frameworks or jargon. You put the customer's business central, can structure complexity, and are firm enough to provide counterweight at the executive level yet pragmatic enough to truly get movement in execution.

Don't recognize yourself in every point?

Do you not meet all the points above, but do recognize yourself in the profile—namely, being strong in building relationships with senior stakeholders and motivated to grow in information security and privacy? Then we still cordially invite you to apply. We look at potential and the right attitude at least as much as a perfect match on paper.

Are you interested?

Apply directly or contact Robin Verdegaal.

About Northwave

In their own words

About the company & team

Northwave consists of over 275 professionals and has been providing 24/7 cybersecurity services for 19 years, where Business, Bytes, and Behaviour converge. Our Security Officers and CISOs are the face towards the customer: they translate what is needed technically, organizationally, and behaviorally into an approach that works at the executive level.

The number of customers is growing, the threat landscape is constantly changing, and laws and regulations (NIS2, DORA, GDPR) are becoming increasingly decisive. At the same time, customers expect security not to be approached as a separate compliance exercise, but as an integral part of their business operations. Therefore, the Security & Privacy Office is expanding with a Security Officer who can bridge this gap between strategy and execution for customers.
