The role
Bringing train sets without passengers to their destination in a safe and efficient manner; you make it happen!
Before our NS trains are 'released' onto the Dutch tracks, mechanics and cleaners have already given the train sets significant attention. We do this in various teams in NS service companies throughout the Netherlands. As a shunter at Maintenance & Service, you ensure that the train sets are brought to the right place at the right time so that passengers can travel without delay in a clean and safe train.
What you'll do
We inspect, repair, and clean trains on a regular basis. From the outside and the inside. In the role of machinist at Onderhoud & Service, you play an important role in this process. By driving the train sets to the right destination at the right time, you complete the job. Ultimately, you are co-responsible for the safe and punctual departure of the train. You know how to achieve this successfully, partly through the use of collaborative qualities and stress resistance when:
Shunting train sets without passengers.
Assembling trains.
Operating the train wash installation, where all trains are cleaned externally.
Collaborating with different teams (for example, mechanics, cleaners, work preparers).
Ensuring quality and safety: your most important pillars.
Thinking along and designing new work processes that lead to more efficiency.

During the training, you will work in practice under the guidance of a workplace supervisor. You can find more information about the training here.
Training
Have you been hired? Then you will follow an internal training program of 52 weeks (36 hours per week). You will work in practice at the location under the guidance of a workplace mentor, and you will attend lessons at the NS Learning Center in Amersfoort. This allows you to combine professional knowledge with practical experience.
You can find more information about the training programme here.
Where you will work
It happens in Maastricht; that is where we shunt our trains. You will do this in a small team of 14 enthusiastic shunters who support each other where necessary. You will work in a roster with irregular shifts (early, late, night).
