We are looking for a motivated third-year or fourth-year student in the microbiology/biochemistry/process technology program!
Would you like to know what it is like to be part of one of the largest multinational companies in the pharmaceutical industry? We offer an internship position within our Tissue Culture Boxmeer (TCB) department where you will be given freedom and space for your own initiative.

What you'll do
The TCB department is an essential hub in our organization. This department is focused on the production of mainly viral antigens in roller bottles and single-use bioreactors. The team works closely with other departments within the company to achieve the set goals.
Your main task consists of independently and accurately performing the most common activities required to produce the antigens. You will work according to detailed daily schedules, monitor quality, recognize deviations, and report them in a timely manner.
Your internship assignment
As an intern, you are responsible for:
- Preparing media, which is used in the cultivation and inactivation of cells and viruses.
- Producing viral antigens and monitoring biological culture processes in roller bottles and bioreactors.
- Identifying deviations and malfunctions regarding process, equipment, and safety.
- You can be deployed on the most common USP and DSP steps within the department (USP: cell startup, cell passage, infection, both in roller bottles as well as in bioreactors. DSP: various methods of virus harvest, sonication, inactivation, concentration, and purification techniques).
- Assisting and supporting in problem analyses from raw material to end product and solving them, making use of MPS techniques such as Scientific Problem Solving or Kaizen.
The described activities form the basic package and, after a good induction and learning period, will often be performed independently. On your own initiative or by request from the organization, these can be supplemented with other projects and/or tasks.
What is required
A third-year or fourth-year BOL-3 or 4 student of microbiology, biochemistry, and process technology who:
- Is available 4 or 5 days per week for a period of 5 to 9 months.
- Has a professional attitude, brings enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, and finds it a challenge to do an internship in a dynamic, complex environment.
- Wants to work in a production environment.
