The role

Vattenfall is one of the largest energy companies in Europe. We generate electricity and heat and supply energy to millions of customers. We do this in Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Finland, and the Netherlands.

With approximately 21,000 employees, we are making a future possible in which we are less dependent on the use of fossil fuels for our energy. We are at the forefront of the transition to a sustainable energy system. To be able to achieve this ambitious goal, we are looking for talented individuals who, alongside their passion for their own role, also have a strong team spirit and want to contribute to supporting a meaningful corporate mission.

What you'll do

  • Developing and improving price and forecasting models for energy consumption and cost prices;
  • Applying AI to increase forecasting power and implement improvements broadly;
  • You leverage the new possibilities of machine learning and A.I. to implement improvements faster and across the full spectrum.  You will develop yourself into an expert in the application of A.I. to these models and processes;
  • Identifying trends such as smart charging, solar curtailment, and home batteries, and their effect on our portfolio;
  • Translating insights into concrete opportunities for improvement in pricing, sourcing, and risk management;
  • Actively contributing to knowledge building within the team and the implementation of innovations.

You will be given the space to take initiative, to develop yourself, to discover opportunities for improvement, and to realize them. You report to the Director Customer Value Optimization.

Vacatureomschrijving

Do you want to apply your analytical talent at the intersection of data, sustainability, and strategy? Do you like working in a team that is right in the middle of the complex challenges of the energy market? Then we are looking for you.

As a Data Scientist, you will strengthen the Energy Procurement, Risk Management, and Pricing Policy team. This team determines the procurement strategy for green electricity and gas and translates this into sharp and responsible prices for our customers. Because no matter which energy products we offer, it always begins with predicting consumption, uncertainties, and cost prices as accurately as possible. Every improvement lowers costs for our customers and helps us to accelerate the energy transition.

The energy market is changing rapidly. Due to the energy transition, the procurement and pricing of energy is becoming increasingly complex and less predictable. Smart analyses and applications that come ever closer to real time are therefore essential. And that is what you will be working on!

In addition, you have

You are analytical and enjoy delving into the aforementioned subject matter to develop yourself into a top specialist. You work accurately and have a proactive attitude. You work closely with other specialists in the fields of procurement, forecasting, pricing, and reporting within the department. Additionally, you work together with specialists in the fields of data science, machine learning, and data engineers outside the department.

You dare to look critically at existing ways of working and bring in new perspectives. At the same time, you can communicate your analyses and ideas understandably to colleagues.

We offer

At Vattenfall, there is a close team culture where there is also plenty of room for individual initiative.

Hybrid working is the norm for us, which means that you work at least 50% in the office. Most of your colleagues like to work the other 50% of their time at home, but we leave that entirely up to you. At Vattenfall, we attach great value to a good work-life balance and we continue to look at how we can contribute to this as an employer.
