The role

Vattenfall is a European energy company with approximately 20,000 employees working in various countries. For more than 100 years, we have been involved in electrifying industries, providing energy to people's homes, and modernizing our way of life through innovation and collaboration. Vattenfall aims to make a fossil-free life possible in the future. We are at the forefront of the transition to a sustainable energy system. To achieve this ambitious goal, we are looking for talented individuals who, in addition to their passion for their own role, also have a strong team spirit and want to contribute to supporting a meaningful corporate mission.

What you'll do

Applying your (electrical) technical knowledge at great heights without experience in wind energy? That is possible at our new Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm. 140 wind turbines, 25 kilometers off the coast near Noordwijk, are going to generate 1.5 gigawatts of electricity. We are looking for a team of 30 service technicians for the maintenance of these impressive turbines. We will train you to become a fully qualified Service Technician.

Clean, safe energy that helps us achieve our goal: a fossil-free future. Will you help keep these gigantic machines operational? Switch to a career in wind energy and start working as an (aspiring) Service Technician Hollandse Kust Zuid!

What are you going to do?
From the site office in IJmuiden, we work on the unimpeded functioning of the 140 wind turbines that, from 2022, together form the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) wind farm. As a service technician, you play an important role in maintaining these hyper-modern turbines. What does that look like?

When you arrive in the morning, you see on the monitoring systems how the wind turbines are doing. Literally and figuratively. Usually, everything is running smoothly and you get to work on the scheduled maintenance. You step into the Crew Transport Vessel (CTV), a 2000 hp catamaran. As the boat reaches its top speed of 30 knots, you see the sun rising behind you. After forty-five minutes, the CTV drops you off at the foot of one of the turbines: this is your workplace today. You climb 150 meters and arrive in the turbine nacelle. Based on clear instructions, you get to work: you perform inspections, replace parts, clean where necessary, and ensure proper lubrication. In short, you do everything necessary for the sustainable functioning of the precious installation.

Your second task is troubleshooting. You read the faults via the monitoring systems, and often a fault can be resolved via a reset in the site office. However, sometimes your head and hands are needed. You fetch a new part from the warehouse – which is located next to the office – step into the boat, and resolve the fault.

Of course, we don't just send you out to sea and up into the air. Your job begins with a solid training program, where technology and safety are central. During the first years, you will also benefit from the knowledge of the wind turbine supplier. This is knowledge you acquire on-the-job, but also through an extensive training program. After that, you may call yourself a proficient Service Technician Offshore Wind and make a concrete contribution to a beautiful, clean world. How attractive is that?

You will work in a rotation schedule of 7 days on and 7 days off. Every day you start from IJmuiden and also end there, so you sleep in your own bed during your on-shift. During your off-shift, you are therefore free and have a nice balance between work and private life.
