Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer

• Medior: 3+ years/ Senior: 5+ years of experience delivering production-ready data science solutions in a commercial or public environment; 

• Advanced proficiency in Python, including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and at least one deep learning framework (TensorFlow or PyTorch); 

• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes), plus infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Bicep) on Azure or on-prem; 

• Strong knowledge of MLOps toolchains, including MLflow, Airflow, Azure ML SDK, and automated CI/CD pipelines (Git, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions); 

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences; 

• Demonstrable experience in leading projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and direct contact with business stakeholders; 

• Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline; 

• Fluent in Dutch and English, both spoken and written, at a professional level;

We are looking for a hands-on, result-oriented Medior/Senior Data Scientist for our Data & AI practice in Nieuwegein. You translate complex business problems into robust, end-to-end data science solutions: designing, building, and operationalizing models that deliver measurable value across various sectors. This includes both client projects and internal product development. 

In this role, you will: 

• Execute data science projects from problem definition through to production implementation, collaborating closely with Sopra colleagues and client teams in a DevOps environment; 

• Work on innovative projects and products such as our simulations, digital twins, or Large Language Models-as-a-service products (for LLMs, see our specific LLM vacancy); 

• Operationalize models using MLOps/DevOps best practices; using, among others, MLflow for experiment tracking, Docker/Kubernetes for containerization, and CI/CD (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) for automated testing and releasing; 

• Advise clients on algorithm selection, scalable feature engineering pipelines, and cloud-native deployment patterns: optimized for performance and cost-efficiency; 

• Mentor junior colleagues by performing code reviews, sharing best practices, and stimulating a culture of continuous learning; 

• Stay up to date with the latest developments in reinforcement learning, causal inference, LLMs, GenAI, AutoML – and translate these insights into new services.

For a medior profile, we typically look for someone with 3+ years of relevant, practical experience; for a senior profile, 5+ years.
