The role

This is why you want to work as a Fullstack Developer for internal applications for driving staff at NS

This is what you will be doing as a Fullstack Developer for internal applications for driving staff

As a Fullstack Developer, you will work on digital solutions within the Competent & Capable domain. With these solutions, we ensure that operational colleagues have access to reliable information regarding, among other things, qualifications, training, certifications, and deployability.

What you'll do

  • Your work makes it possible for NS train staff to perform their work safely and competently.
  • You will be in a dynamic environment where you develop and maintain both back-end and front-end applications, providing you with plenty of variety.
  • By supporting NS staff, you contribute directly to the development of a more sustainable society.

"Every time I travel by train, I am reminded that my work has an impact in the real world. This gives me a lot of satisfaction."

  • Jurrian, Full-stack developer, team Air

You will work on the full lifecycle of our applications: from design and development to deployment, monitoring, and further improvement in production. Your focus lies on backend development with .NET/C#, but you move easily across different parts of the stack.

You will, among other things:

  • design, build, and further develop fullstack solutions with .NET/C#;
  • develop APIs and integrations for a reliable exchange of information;
  • contribute to web and mobile solutions, including native Android;
  • work with Azure, CI/CD, containers, monitoring, and logging;
  • apply automated tests, code quality checks, and security scans;
  • contribute to privacy and security by design;
  • translate complex questions into working solutions together with the Product Owner, UX, Service Experts, and the business;
  • monitor and improve applications even after they go live;
  • actively contribute to architecture, development, and UX standards within NS.

In doing so, you look beyond just the code. You want to understand which problem you are solving, for whom you are doing it, and how you ensure that a solution continues to work reliably in production.

Where you will work

You will join a DevOps team within the Competent & Capable domain of Cluster PFS. Within this domain, we develop and manage mission-critical digital solutions for operational NS colleagues. The solutions support them in being and remaining demonstrably competent, capable, and deployable.

You will work closely with, among others, the Product Owner, other developers, Service Experts, UX, architecture, security and cloud experts, and stakeholders from operations. Additionally, there is collaboration with cluster-wide platform teams such as Atlas and ROBE.

The working atmosphere is open and collaborative. We challenge each other, share knowledge, and continuously look for ways to improve our solutions and way of working.

You will work hybridly from Utrecht and from home. Monday is in principle the collective office day, though flexibility is possible.

These are the job requirements

You are an experienced developer who takes responsibility for the entire product and not just for your own piece of code. You can explain technical choices, think about reliability and security, and enjoy working with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

In addition, you bring:

  • approximately 5 years of relevant experience as a software developer;
  • extensive experience with .NET and C#;
  • experience with developing APIs and integrations;
  • experience with DevOps and CI/CD, for example with Azure DevOps;
  • experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native development;
  • knowledge of containerization, monitoring, and logging;
  • experience with automated testing and software quality;
  • attention to security, privacy, availability, and continuity;
  • the ability to independently analyze technical issues and bring them from problem to working solution.

Experience with native Android, for example Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, is a plus. The same applies to experience with infrastructure as code, for example Bicep, ARM, or Terraform.

At least as important to us is how you work. You actively seek collaboration, take initiative, remain curious, and dare to challenge existing solutions when you see they can be improved. At the same time, you work carefully and make conscious choices before bringing anything into production.
