What we're looking for

What you bring

We are looking for the skills and experience below, along with the motivation and ability to quickly master new technologies. We would love to hear how you have previously learned something new and applied it in practice.

  • Backend or systems development: You have experience building software in Rust for production use, or developing software where performance is critical, for example in C or C++. If Rust is relatively new to you, you already have basic knowledge of the language and are eager to develop it further in practice.
  • Frontend development: You have experience building and maintaining complex web applications in TypeScript, using React or a similar framework such as Angular or Vue.
  • APIs and data integrations: You have experience designing APIs and integrations for distributed systems and working with data-intensive applications or services of a data platform.
  • Python and SQL: You can use Python for integrations, automation, or data workflows and can work with SQL and relational databases.
  • Software delivery: You have experience building and maintaining Docker images suitable for production and working with CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, tests, and releases.
  • Secure development: You understand how managing dependencies, securing containers, and resolving vulnerabilities contribute to secure software delivery.
  • Problem analysis: You can investigate problems in the frontend, backend, data integrations, and application deployment.
  • Responsibility and collaboration: You can independently take responsibility for a technical solution and work well with colleagues. You explain technical choices and document your work clearly.

Nice to have

Experience in the following areas is welcome, but not required to apply:

  • Collaboration applications and notebooks: Yjs, CRDTs, or the Jupyter ecosystem, including JupyterLab, kernels, and the messaging protocol.
  • User experience for complex applications: Insight into how to make data workflows, interactive tools, and information-heavy interfaces clear and pleasant to use.
  • Streaming and data processing: Kafka, MQTT, Apache Flink, or patterns for loading and transforming real-time data.
  • Data formats and storage: Schema registries, Avro, Protocol Buffers, PostgreSQL, Teradata, or object storage such as Amazon S3 and Azure Data Lake Storage.
  • Platform tools: Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, reusable SDKs, platform libraries, or internal development tools.

Pay & benefits

What you'll get

Of course, as an employer, we also have a lot to offer you. This is what you get from us:

The role

Build software that makes it easier for teams to access, explore, and use data.

As a software engineer for the Data Services Hub (DSH), you will develop tools that teams use to work with data: from backend services and reusable SDKs to web applications and integrations with data streams.

In this role, you combine backend development in Rust with frontend development in TypeScript and React. You take responsibility for solutions from technical design to production use. In doing so, you work together with colleagues on implementation, reviews, deployment, and troubleshooting.

You also collaborate with internal users to understand their needs and help them make effective use of the platform. On the frontend, the emphasis lies on interactive applications for data exploration, analysis, and integration, featuring logical workflows and user-friendly interfaces.

What you'll do

Developing and improving software is at the core of your work. Even after release, you remain involved in the reliability and maintenance of the components you build. Operational tasks currently represent a relatively small part of the role. Attention to quality, testing, and automation helps us prevent unnecessary management and support work.

We share knowledge and help each other with questions and technical challenges. You bring your own experience and will continue to learn our technology stack by working with it, with the help of colleagues.

Here you will work on

  • Designing, building, and maintaining backend services and SDKs in Rust and web applications in TypeScript and React.
  • Developing functionality for loading, transforming, exploring, and visualizing data, including the notebook environment in which users collaborate.
  • Connecting applications to streaming platforms, databases, object storage, schema registries, and other data services.
  • Building and maintaining automated software delivery pipelines and secure Docker images. You keep dependencies up to date and resolve vulnerabilities.
  • Deploying, monitoring, and updating services, and investigating and resolving issues, together with the team.
  • Helping internal teams use the platform, develop integrations, and solve technical problems.
  • Contributing to architectural choices, code reviews, testing, and documentation. In this way, you improve the reliability, performance, security, and maintainability of the platform.
