The role
In short
Job type: Regular
Location: Schiphol Oost
Hours per week: 40
Education level: Mbo
Apply until: 01-11-2026
The world is at your feet as an Engine Mechanic at KLM. Not only will you maintain and repair various aircraft engines from day one, but you will also enter a focused and extensive learning program within our unique business. Due to the diversity of roles, departments, and colleagues, at KLM you have the chance to exceed yourself. Every single day.
What will you do?
A technical problem or time for a full check-up? In both cases, you first disassemble the engine according to a fixed sequence. After that, you apply your trained eye to all the different parts: from the largest turbines to the smallest bolts. Not only do you maintain these parts, you also replace them where necessary - and you are always searching for hidden discrepancies. Finally, you put everything back together, repaired and ready.
Furthermore:
- we will train you in both (dis)assembling and working on various parts;
- you will work on all kinds of engines such as CFM56-7B, CF6, GEnx, and the LEAP;
- you always have a sharp eye for all safety requirements - and there are a lot of them!
Where will you land?
You will work at Engine Services at Schiphol-Oost, in a team of twenty colleagues. You will work together in shift patterns, consisting of one week of day shifts and one week of evening shifts.
You will enter a structured world with clear tasks and a zero-tolerance policy regarding errors: because of this, it is always clear what you need to do. We are also increasingly making use of digital tools, which help us work smarter and more efficiently.
Your profile
You do not shrink from rapidly changing situations. As flexible as you are, you can easily change your planning and switch gears quickly. You are enthusiastic, curious, and enjoy working together - but can also work perfectly well on your own. You do not let stress hold you back, because even under time pressure, you get the aircraft safely and on time ready for operation. And whether you have theoretical or practical knowledge of aircraft, or primarily know your way around technology: with us, you will learn everything you need
Furthermore:
- you can work in a very concentrated and controlled manner;
- you have a sharp eye for any potential mistakes;
- you speak and understand Dutch and (technical) English well.
Please note: have you not completed an mbo education (level 3), but DO have experience in technology? Then still respond to this vacancy!
To ensure you are onboarded as well as possible, you will start in the Engine Academy. During this period, you will be prepared for the work of an aircraft engine mechanic. The next available start dates are 1 February 2027 and 1 April 2027 (no holidays can be taken during this 6 to 8-week training).
What do we offer?
- A challenging role at a unique Dutch company;
- A gross salary between € 2,831.54 and € 3,656.80 gross per month;
- Plenty of room for personal development and great growth opportunities;
- Shift allowance;
- An excellent pension scheme;
- 8% holiday allowance;
- An end-of-year bonus of 8.33%;
- A profit-sharing scheme, up to 20%;
- 25 vacation days and 7 extra days off if you work irregular shifts;
- Significant discount on flight tickets (if you have been employed for at least 6 months);
- A sustainable transport policy, including 100% free travel to work via Public Transport (within the Netherlands);
- Discount on your health insurance;
- A budget for sustainable employability.
Ready for your next destination?
Then don't wait any longer, and apply for the 'final boarding call' on 01-11-2026!
You do not need to write a cover letter; during your online application, we will ask you several targeted questions. Your application procedure consists of two interviews and possibly an assessment, capacity test, and a security screening.
Candidates who are positively selected for the first interview will receive an email in which they can choose a suitable time slot for the interview themselves. This keeps the process fast and clear, and gives you control over your planning. You will hear from us within two weeks after the vacancy closes.
You can log in to your personal candidate profile at any time. Here you will find the vacancy you applied for - even after it has closed - and a clear dashboard with any other ongoing applications within KLM, including status updates. Do you have the drive to grow further in this role? Then we look forward to your application.
Did you know that according to research, women are less likely to apply than men if they do not meet all the job requirements? A shame. Because 'the perfect candidate' is, as far as we are concerned, a myth. So, do you have the drive to still grow in some aspects of this role? We look forward to your application.
A reference check may be part of the application procedure.
