Senior Geotechnical Advisor

• You have a completed HBO (higher professional education) or WO (university) degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnics, or similar;

• You have at least 10 years of work experience as a Geotechnical Advisor or a similar position within infrastructure projects;

• You have knowledge of and experience with geotechnical methods, techniques, and processes;

• You have experience with geotechnical software (for example PLAXIS, D-Series etc.);

• Strong communication skills and the ability to convey technical information clearly.

As a Senior Geotechnical Advisor at Ballast Nedam Large Projects, you will be a key force within the project team working on the extensive A27 (ALSÉÉN) infrastructure project. In this position, you will maintain a continuous overview of all geotechnical issues within the project. You will ensure that design and execution align technically in every phase and that all decisions are substantively correct. You will work intensively with designers, project management, site managers, and external parties, which means you will know exactly which developments are occurring, which choices are urgent, and where the greatest geotechnical risks lie.

In this senior role, you will combine deep substantive expertise with broad, coordinating responsibility. You will delve into geotechnical calculations, assess technical dossiers, and quickly recognize where potential bottlenecks arise. You can clearly explain which design choices are logical and why certain solutions work better than others. The team relies on your insight during complex questions or discussions, because you are able to oversee the total geotechnical picture and provide direction when necessary.

The project area around the A27 brings complex geotechnical challenges. You will work in zones with settlement-sensitive subsoil, such as clay and peat layers, and in the direct vicinity of existing roads, waterways, and dikes. This means that you will constantly think ahead, work accurately, and have a sense for risks that could influence safety, stability, and planning. You will monitor technical progress, keep a sharp eye on the schedule, and ensure that any problems are resolved quickly and carefully. At the same time, you will remain close to the technical content, so that decisions are always based on a solid geotechnical foundation.

In this position, you will receive a great deal of responsibility. You will adjust course where necessary, guide colleagues in their professional growth, and monitor that the quality of all geotechnical information remains high. You switch easily between the level of detail and the broader project context, allowing you to make complex geotechnical subject matter understandable for everyone involved in the project.
