The accountancy sector is extensive, dynamic, and has a major impact on millions of Dutch people. Reliable annual accounts are important for crucial economic decisions. The sector is constantly changing due to developments such as private equity involvement, mergers, digitalization, and new legislation. As a result, risks arise and responsibilities shift. This necessitates sharp supervision of the quality of statutory audits, the quality management system, and the conduct and culture within accounting firms.
In this role, you will supervise the accountancy sector, with the emphasis of this vacancy being on the design and operation of the quality management system within accounting firms. Among other things, you will combine insights and information from discussions with organizations, research, and data analysis. Together with colleagues, you will determine the most effective approach, ranging from conducting dialogues and organizing thematic meetings to deploying formal enforcement when necessary. You will draw connections between individual cases and broader developments in the sector, allowing you to maintain visibility on what is happening in the sector and what that means for supervision.

You will become part of the Quality of Audit and Reporting (KAV) department. This is the largest department of the AFM, with approximately 100 colleagues from various disciplines, ranging from accountants and lawyers to data analysts, behavioral experts, and policy advisors. We often conduct supervisory investigations in multidisciplinary teams, in which different expertise strengths one another. This enables us to fathom complex issues from various perspectives and makes our supervision more effective. Together, we supervise approximately 236 accounting firms and the financial reporting of listed companies.
