Requirements

What we're looking for

  • Experience: 8+ years of experience primarily focused on a role as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or SRE, with a strong track record in setting up developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and managing cloud infrastructure in production.

The role

LessonUp was founded in 2015 with the goal of enabling every teacher to create the most engaging, fun, and effective learning moments. Since then, we have grown into the largest education platform in the Netherlands for teachers and are a market leader in secondary education and vocational training (mbo). More than 100,000 teachers worldwide create and deliver lessons daily with LessonUp. Our ambition is to support 1 million teachers worldwide and thereby make a positive impact on education.

What you'll do

We are looking for a Senior Platform Automation Engineer who will take the lead over our cloud platform and raise the development speed of our engineering team to a higher level. In this role, the focus lies on infrastructure, DevOps, and platform engineering.

You will tackle a dual mission: managing and further developing our core GCP production infrastructure (including tackling tech debt, managing cloud resources, and ensuring the reliability of the production environment), and radically shortening the time between a developer writing code and knowing whether it works.

You will not be writing QA tests on a daily basis; our developers and QA engineers manage the test suites themselves. Your focus lies specifically on platform enablement. You build, scale, and maintain the underlying cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and ephemeral environments per Pull Request (ephemeral environments). With this, you ensure that those tests can run flawlessly and enable the team to deploy reliable code to production at high speed.

What you will do

  • Ownership over the production infrastructure & GCP Roadmap: Take control of our GCP environment. Tackle outstanding tech debt, optimize the use of cloud resources, and ensure that the production systems are configured to be secure, performant, cost-efficient, and scalable.

  • Facilitate ephemeral environments per PR: Design and manage ephemeral environments with which engineers can start up a fully working instance of our app for every pull request. This makes testing and QA reviews fast, isolated, and effortless.

  • Run E2E tests frequently and reliably: Manage the operation and execution of our test frameworks (Playwright, Jest, Cucumber) within CI. Focus on linking tests to ephemeral environments, optimizing parallelization, and relentlessly reducing flakiness, so that developers receive immediate and reliable feedback.

  • Optimize CI/CD & Developer Workflows: Streamline build, test, and deployment pipelines to minimize waiting times for developers and set up robust release mechanisms.

  • Strengthen the Engineering team: Provide the APIs, data preparation tools, and CI/CD integrations that developers and QA need to seamlessly be able to write, maintain, and trust their own test suites.

A little more about you

  • Residing in the Netherlands (working fully remote from abroad or relocation is not possible).
