HBO/WO Internship: Digitalization of the ‘Product Finishing Plan’ - Master Scheduling

The Master Scheduling team is responsible for creating and maintaining an appropriately balanced production plan for future global sales. This production plan must optimize available capacity, inventory, and service (orders) over a 24-month horizon.

Some products undergo an additional 'finishing' process at a different location after manufacturing. This part of the production plan is currently generated using simple tools. For this process, we are looking for a future-proof and systematic solution.

You will begin by analyzing the current processes and gathering requirements for a new system. Next, you will investigate which improvement options are available. Based on one of these options, you will design a concept, test it with different datasets, and validate the results. Finally, you will work on the implementation by documenting the solution and providing training to the end users.

The expected results are:

• an improved and automated system that generates planning based on orders, inventory, and demand;
• proposals to improve efficiency and accuracy in the planning process.
• documentation and training for end users.

For this assignment, basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python is desired, as well as insight into logistical processes and supply chain management.

You will be given the space to adapt the assignment to the requirements of your degree program. Additionally, you will receive regular guidance and feedback from an experienced mentor, access to the necessary software and tools, and support in collecting relevant data and information.

Is following a Bachelor's or Master's degree and wants to complete a graduation assignment or master's thesis. Furthermore, the student has the following knowledge and skills:

• Knowledge of subjects such as operations research, statistics and optimization, data management
• Understanding of MS Office 365 Power Suite applications
• Understanding of Python or Java
• Has an eye for detail and for the bigger picture.
• Works with colleagues from the Netherlands and all kinds of other nationalities; therefore, good Dutch and English speaking and writing skills are important.

• You will receive an internship at a globally operating healthcare company. An internship is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with it; perhaps one of Abbott's companies will even become your future employer.
• You will be assigned a technical supervisor with whom you will spar about the substantive progress of your assignment, and you will receive a mentor from the Project Management department. The supervisor/mentor will discuss progress with you and, if necessary, liaise with your educational institution.
• To do your work well, you will be given access to the systems with an Abbott laptop.
• And finally, you will receive an internship allowance of € 500,- (gross per month for full-time).
