The role

At KPN, we build digital services that millions of customers use every day. Customers rely on our platforms to manage their products and services and to stay connected with KPN. Behind these digital experiences, engineering teams work continuously on technology that becomes faster, smarter, and more reliable.

During your internship, you will become part of an agile engineering team. You will work together with frontend and backend engineers, platform specialists, architects, and product owners. You won't just observe, but will actively contribute to real projects. You will participate in technical meetings and code reviews and discover how professional engineering teams turn ideas into working software. During your internship, an experienced mentor will guide you and help you further develop your technical skills.

What you'll do

As an intern, you will help build and improve KPN's digital platforms. Depending on your assignment, you might develop functionalities for customer portals using Vue.js or build backend services with Python, FastAPI, or Django. You will work on real projects and discover how modern technologies interact within KPN's digital environment.

During your internship, you will:

Build applications and connect them with REST APIs, Kafka, and modern backend technologies.
Learn how OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect contribute to secure digital customer journeys.
Discover how applications run in cloud environments with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Monitor performance and reliability with tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
Gain experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps methods.
Discover how AI tools can support software development, testing, and quality improvement.

You do not need to know all these technologies yet. You will learn from experienced engineers by building, experimenting, and adding your own ideas and code to real projects.

You get excited about discovering how technology works. You enjoy programming, solving problems, and love turning ideas into working solutions. You enjoy learning from others and are not afraid to ask questions.

Additionally:

You are pursuing a higher professional education (HBO) or university degree, such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a similar technical study.
You live and study in the Netherlands.
You have some programming experience from your studies, projects, or personal initiatives.
You are interested in web development, backend engineering, APIs, and cloud technology.
You enjoy analyzing technical challenges and coming up with practical solutions.
You communicate clearly and enjoy collaborating with people from different fields.
You enjoy experimenting with new technologies and want to further develop your engineering skills.
