The role

At KPN, we build digital services that millions of customers use every day. Customers rely on our platforms to manage their products, services, and connection with KPN. Behind these experiences are engineering teams working continuously to make our technology faster, smarter, and more reliable.

During your internship, you will become part of an agile engineering team. You will work alongside frontend and backend engineers, platform specialists, architects, and product owners. You will not just watch from the sidelines. You will contribute to real projects, join technical discussions, participate in code reviews, and learn how professional engineering teams turn ideas into working software. An experienced mentor will guide you throughout your internship and help you develop your technical skills.

As an intern, you will help build and improve KPN’s digital platforms. Depending on your assignment, you could develop customer portal features with Vue.js or build backend services using Python, FastAPI, or Django. You will contribute to real projects while discovering how modern technologies work together within KPN’s digital environment.

What you'll do

During your internship, you will:

  • Build and connect applications using REST APIs, Kafka, and modern backend technologies.
  • Learn how OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect help secure digital customer journeys.
  • Discover how applications run in cloud environments using AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Monitor performance and reliability with tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Gain experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Explore how AI-powered tools can support software development, testing, and quality.

You do not need to know all these technologies yet. You will learn from experienced engineers while building, experimenting, and contributing your own ideas and code to real projects.

We are looking for someone who gets curious when discovering how technology works. You enjoy programming, solving problems, and turning ideas into working solutions. You like learning from others and are not afraid to ask questions.

In addition:

  • You study Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related HBO or university programme.
  • You have some programming experience from your studies, projects, or personal initiatives.
  • You are interested in web development, backend engineering, APIs, and cloud technology.
  • You enjoy analysing technical challenges and finding practical solutions.
  • You communicate clearly and enjoy working with people from different disciplines.
  • You are eager to experiment with new technologies and develop your engineering skills.
