The role

Job type: Regular
Location: Schiphol Oost
Hours per week: 32-40
Education level: University
Apply by: 11-11-2026

More data is being generated within aircraft and maintenance operations than ever before. By applying advanced techniques from Operations Research, Machine Learning, and AI, we can transform this data into valuable insights that make aircraft maintenance even smarter and more efficient. As a leading player in Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), Air France-KLM's maintenance division not only supports our own fleet, but we also provide maintenance services for aircraft, engines, and components to more than 150 customers worldwide. Are you ready to help build the future of aircraft maintenance with your expertise in Operations Research, ML, and AI?

What you'll do

As a Data Scientist within E&M, you play an important role in developing and industrializing advanced Data Science models and Operations Research models. You are a subject matter expert and advise the organization on the possibilities of Data Science and Operations Research. Together with our Agile/Scrum Big Data Development team, you will work on impactful data-driven products that optimize aircraft maintenance.

Examples of challenges we work on:

  • Optimization of maintenance planning:
    We design and implement Operations Research models to optimize maintenance planning. Using Mixed Integer Linear Programming, we enable planners to determine the most effective timing and allocation of maintenance activities per aircraft, while carefully taking into account the impact on the total flight schedule.
  • Optimization of maintenance decision-making:
    How many new mechanics should KLM E&M hire in the coming years to meet future maintenance needs? And what is the optimal way to group maintenance tasks when introducing a new aircraft type to our fleet?
  • Predicting required manpower, materials, and delay risk:
    We deploy Machine Learning and GenAI models to predict maintenance findings before they impact operations. By making better estimates of required manpower, materials, and lead times, we aim to enable more efficient planning, reduce delays, and ensure that maintenance operations run more smoothly.

How you'll work

  • If your position allows it: working from home and working from abroad for up to 8 weeks (EU and Caribbean region);

Your profile
