The Data & Innovation department supports all departments within Security Services: Security Operations, (Cyber) Intelligence, Integrity, and Regulations.
Together we are responsible for:
- improving analyses and predictive insights;
- enabling faster and better-substantiated decision-making;
- supporting the shift from reactive to proactive risk management;
- preparing Security Services for the threats and security challenges of tomorrow;
- ensuring that data and innovation are deployed in a responsible and secure manner and in accordance with privacy requirements.
Coordinating privacy activities
In addition to your responsibilities within Data & Innovation, you are the first point of contact for operational privacy questions and the privacy strategy within Security Services.
Furthermore:
- you coordinate privacy-related activities within the department;
- you assist in drafting and maintaining Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and other privacy assessments;
- you support privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default assessments for new and modified processes, tools, and data applications;
- you help maintain relevant privacy documentation, including the record of processing activities;
- you advise teams on data minimization, retention periods, access, data sharing, and the appropriate use of personal data.
- you work closely with the central privacy experts at KLM and the Data Protection Officer (DPO). The formal and independent responsibilities of the DPO remain separate from this coordinating role.
Supporting Security Operations with data
You work with data regarding, among other things, cyber threats, overflight risks, physical security, and integrity matters. You identify and interpret risks and translate your findings into practical insights and courses of action for the KLM Group. In doing so, you communicate clearly about the assumptions, limitations, and degree of certainty of your analyses.
Stimulating process improvement and innovation
You help align processes within the various parts of Security Services and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation. Think of new tools, automation, AI applications, and decision-support solutions.
Promoting a culture of data-driven working and innovation
You help colleagues to use data, analyses, and digital tools effectively and responsibly in their daily work. You facilitate sessions, explain complex information clearly, and stimulate learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement. Additionally, you act as the data lead for your domain. In this role, you contribute to clear data definitions, ownership, quality, metadata, retention periods, and appropriate access controls.
Working closely with D&T
You work intensively with the Data & Technology platform (D&T) to gain access to data, tools, and cloud environments and to realize sustainable, secure, and scalable solutions. You help ensure that solutions have clear ownership and meet relevant requirements regarding data quality, privacy, information security, access management, and lifecycle management.
Where will you land?
Security Services consists of five departments: Intelligence, Regulations, Operations, Integrity, and Data & Innovation. This position is part of the Data & Innovation department. The Security Services department provides 24/7 services to ensure the continuity of the activities and business processes of the KLM Group. In doing so, security threats, risks, and challenges are addressed both proactively and reactively, under the motto: Your security, our priority!
Your location is Building 201 at Schiphol-Oost. You typically work at this location at least three days per week, taking into account your working hours and operational requirements. On the remaining days, if the nature of your work allows, you can work from home.
Your profile
You combine strong analytical skills with practical knowledge of privacy and data governance. You have an affinity for new technologies and security and can translate complex issues in the field of data and laws and regulations into clear, applicable advice. You collaborate easily with technical specialists, operational teams, and other stakeholders. You handle confidential and sensitive information with care and understand the importance of access based on the need-to-know principle, accuracy, and discretion.
In addition, you possess:
- a relevant bachelor's or master's degree, for example in data science, business analytics, information management, computer science, privacy, law, or a similar field;
- at least two years of relevant work experience in the field of data analysis, data governance, and privacy;
- demonstrable experience in analyzing and combining data and translating findings into concrete, usable insights;
- knowledge of data quality, data ownership, access management, retention periods, and responsible data use;
- thorough knowledge of privacy legislation, including the GDPR;
- practical experience with privacy assessments, such as Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and with privacy by design;
- experience with developing or maintaining internal privacy guidelines, procedures, and control measures;
- experience with supporting change processes, including the implementation of new technologies, processes, or ways of working;
- the ability to explain analytical and privacy-related topics clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Experience with one or more of the following subjects is a plus:
- AI governance and the European AI Act;
- a privacy certification, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or an equivalent qualification;
- aviation, security, cyber, intelligence, integrity, or another regulated environment.
