The role

At Royal Van Lent Shipyard, we build unique superyachts that belong to the absolute top worldwide. Behind every yacht lies a complex network of suppliers, materials, systems, and services. As a Project Buyer, you ensure that these are always available at the right time. You also arrange the correct terms and monitor the highest quality standards.

You are the connecting link between engineering, production, suppliers, and project management. With your commercial insight, negotiation skills, and sense of planning, you steer projects tightly. This keeps them controlled, compliant, and within budget.

What you'll do

As a Project Buyer, you purchase project-related materials, products, and services. You do this throughout the entire lifecycle of a yacht construction project. You translate project needs into an effective procurement strategy and ensure an optimal balance between quality, cost, risks, and delivery reliability.

  • Drafting and executing project procurement plans based on the construction schedule.
  • Translating project needs into an appropriate procurement and supplier strategy.
  • Drafting RFQs, analyzing quotes, and making objective supplier assessments.
  • Independently conducting negotiations regarding price, quality, contract terms, and delivery times.
  • Drafting and managing project agreements and contract arrangements.
  • Maintaining contacts with suppliers and project teams at operational and tactical levels.
  • Monitoring delivery performance, progress, and quality throughout the project.
  • Identifying and following up on deviations, quality issues, and non-conformities (NCRs).
  • Collaborating with Category Buyers to further develop supplier performance.
  • Monitoring budgets, delivery times, and project objectives.
  • Identifying risks in the areas of planning, quality, documentation, and compliance.
  • Managing changes (change orders) and assessing the impact on the project.
  • Ensuring complete and correct project administration for the purpose of audits and project files.
  • Initiating improvements based on project experience gained.
  • Providing input for category and supplier strategies.
  • Contributing to the further professionalization of the procurement process within Royal Van Lent Shipyard.

Knowledge and skills, Competencies

  • Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of project-based procurement and contract management.
  • Experience with drafting contracts, RFQs, etc.
  • Experience with negotiation and supplier management.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding, yacht building, or a similar technical environment is a strong plus.
  • Affinity with complex technical products and production processes.
  • Strongly developed in collaboration and stakeholder management.
  • Methodical, accurate, and result-oriented.
  • Dares to make decisions and to make risks discussable.
  • Strong communicator and persuasive in negotiations.
  • Able to maintain an overview of multiple projects.
