The role

We offer you an Ocean of Possibilities. Join our family.

As a Ship Maintenance Technician, you will work on board vessels in a versatile and varied role. You are responsible for performing all occurring (difficult) assembly tasks. Additionally, you will carry out complicated tasks on main and auxiliary machinery on board a large number of ships as instructed. We receive many assignments from the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Rijksrederij. Therefore, the ability to obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is a requirement to work with us. The work takes place not only at our own shipyard, but can also be on location or at the naval base shipyard.

About us

Damen Shipyards Den Helder is a shipyard where approximately 70 people are currently employed. We find our customers in every maritime market, but especially within the government, such as the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Rijksrederij. We are part of the Damen Shiprepair division within the Damen Group.

You will join an organization where hard work is done, but where there is also plenty of laughter. We offer an informal working environment where no two days are the same and where you work together with dedicated colleagues who all share the same passion: repairing ships.

The duties

At a minimum, you will perform the following tasks:

· Dismantling, assembling, repairing, and overhauling pumps, winches, propeller shafts, and rudders;

· Dismantling steering machines, and aligning, among other things, pumps, engines, and gearboxes in collaboration with a specialist;

· Reading drawings, diagrams, and work orders;

· Transporting various parts and devices in and out of a ship;

· Dismantling, repairing, and assembling piping.

What we ask

· At least MBO level 3 working and thinking level;

· Technical knowledge (or willingness to learn) in the field of mechanical engineering/bench work to be able to perform complicated work;

· Experience in ship repair/shipbuilding/offshore;

· Proficiency in the Dutch or English language is a plus;

· The ability to obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG)

What do we offer?

At Damen Shipyards Den Helder, we offer you an environment where, in an independent, free role, you are given the responsibility to perform your work optimally. Not a complex organization, but a flat organization with short lines of communication and a good package of primary and secondary employment conditions.

For this position, the salary is between € 3,300.-- and € 4,500.-- gross per month (based on full-time employment), excluding holiday allowance. We determine the exact grading based on your knowledge and experience. This position falls under the CAO for the Metalektro.

Furthermore, you receive:

  • 27 vacation days and 13 ADV days per year (based on full-time employment)

  • Holiday allowance

  • Profit sharing, a good pension scheme

  • Good allowances and excellent secondary employment conditions, such as a bicycle plan, fitness allowance, and laptop allowance;

  • Plenty of opportunities for training and career growth
