In the role of Dock Service Operator, you will be involved in:

• Operating various dock installations, such as dock gates, hydraulic systems, pumps, generators, and compressors, which contributes to the safe docking and undocking of ships.
• Providing support in drafting dock plans regarding how ships can be docked safely and efficiently based on, among other things, dimensions, weight, draft, and trim.
• Preparing dock operations, including the positioning of keel and side blocks and the drafting and execution of the complete docking procedure;
• Realizing temporary facilities for docked ships, such as fire extinguishing, ballast water, lighting, communication, and access facilities.
• Performing first-line maintenance on docks, installations, and tools to ensure good condition and safety.
• In addition to the above-mentioned responsibilities, various technical and supportive activities are performed.

As a Dock Service Operator, you will work in a team of about eleven people consisting of dock coordinators, dock masters, and dock machinists. The profession of dock service operator / dock master is special and unique because you learn this trade only in practice, and it places heavy demands on your physical condition, availability outside regular working hours, and matching mentality, accuracy, and safety awareness. At Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam, you will start as a dock service operator, but with the right drive and mentality, you can certainly grow into a Dock Master.

Your activities as a Dock Service Operator are primarily focused on supervising the docking (dry-docking) and undocking of ships, offshore structures, and other floating objects. Although you are present during the docking procedure, you will mainly occupy yourself with the operation and maintenance of the docks. You will work with graving and floating docks ranging between 150 and 405 meters in length. You will be deployed at our locations in Botlek and Schiedam.

• Since there is no formal training available to become a dock master, we are looking for interested candidates who want to enter the field and bring a background from shipping, mechanical engineering, the dredging industry, maritime technology, metalworking, or other technical disciplines.
• You have the ambition and the capacity to learn to develop from Dock Service Operator to a fully qualified Dock Master.
• You can read technical drawings and have sufficient technical insight to quickly master the operation and control of docks and installations.
• You are able to perform relevant technical calculations and assess operational situations well.
• You have a practical and hands-on attitude and feel at home in a dynamic, technical working environment.
• You communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, customers, and ship crews, in both Dutch and English. Knowledge of German is a plus.
