The role

Your progress begins at Berenschot

0.8-1.0 fte | Utrecht | hybrid | € 6,283-9,573 | Public administration | MSc

An explosion in a residential area. A cyberattack that paralyzes a municipality. A major incident that dominates the national news for days. At such moments, good crisis management makes the difference.

As a managing consultant crisis management, you advise administrators, boards, and crisis organizations when the social impact is great and the pressure is at its maximum. You help organizations prepare for crises, guide them during complex situations, and evaluate afterwards what can be improved. In this way, you make a direct contribution to a resilient government and to the trust of residents in the public sector.

You work on assignments that matter, together with colleagues who belong to the absolute top of the field.

This is what you will do

As a managing consultant, you work on complex issues at the intersection of crisis communication, crisis management, and public administration. You are a strong interlocutor for administrators, directors, and communication professionals and know how to combine strategic advice with a pragmatic approach.

Your responsibilities include, among other things:

· conducting and supervising independent evaluations of incidents, crises, and disasters, including explosions, safety incidents, and other social events

· developing crisis management plans, crisis scenarios, and communication strategies

· advising administrators, boards, and crisis teams on crisis management, crisis communication, and reputation issues

· supervising crisis exercises, training, and simulations

· advising on the design and further development of crisis organizations

· contributing to acquisition, tender processes, and the further development of our services

· sharing knowledge, coaching colleagues, and actively contributing to the further growth of the team.

No assignment is the same. One week you are having discussions with administrators about the evaluation of a major incident, the next week you are supervising a crisis exercise or developing a communication strategy for a national government organization.

Where you will end up

Berenschot is an independent Dutch organizational consultancy firm in Utrecht, where more than 500 driven colleagues work on sustainable solutions for the challenges of our clients. We contribute to progress in organizations and society with our advice and solutions. Our organization has a flat structure without partners, which gives you influence over the projects you carry out.

These are your direct colleagues

You will become part of the Public Administration advisory group, where over 100 professionals work together on current social issues. Within this advisory group, you will work in the Safety and Crisis Management team and COT (the Crisis Investigation Team).

Together, you advise ministries, safety regions, municipalities, provinces, executive organizations, and other public organizations on crisis management, crisis communication, evaluations of incidents, education, training, and exercises (ETO), and the further professionalization of crisis organizations.

You work together with experienced advisors known for their substantive expertise, independence, and social commitment. Our advisors have clear opinions, but always based on knowledge, facts, and professionalism. At the same time, the atmosphere is informal. We love sharp discussions, working together on complex tasks, and enjoying togetherness during team days, drinks, and other activities.

What you bring

You are an experienced consultant who feels comfortable in an administrative environment where interests are high and speed is important. You know how to distinguish between main and secondary issues and continue to provide sharp advice even under pressure.

In addition, you possess:

·       a completed MSc degree

·       at least five years of relevant work experience within crisis communication, crisis management, or incident investigation

·       experience within a consultancy firm or demonstrable consultancy experience

·       experience with administrative advising

·       excellent writing and presentation skills

·       experience with conducting evaluations, investigations, or complex advisory processes

·       administrative sensitivity, analytical ability, and organizational sensitivity

·       entrepreneurship and the ambition to actively contribute to the further growth of our practice.

Experience within a safety region, ministry, municipality, the police, defense, a GGD, or a similar organization is a strong plus, as is experience in the field of national security and resilience.

What we offer you

At Berenschot, we offer a unique commercial environment without shareholders or partners. This gives us a lot of space and freedom to take initiative and the opportunity to commit ourselves to important social themes. Our informal culture is characteristic. Our diverse and inclusive personnel policy embraces diversity and offers everyone equal opportunities.

Naturally, we also have excellent employment conditions and great development opportunities:

  • a regular collective profit-sharing scheme (depending on the results of the company)

  • an attractive pension scheme

  • 27 vacation days, with the possibility to purchase a maximum of 20 additional vacation days in the case of full-time employment

  • flexible holidays. We offer the possibility to shift official holidays to days that are meaningful to you.

  • a mobility scheme of your choice: a company car or a mobility budget

  • plenty of room for development through internal and external training
