Requirements

What we're looking for

To be able to do your job successfully, you have completed a civil engineering, architectural, or similar  education at a minimum of HBO (higher professional education) level. You are at the beginning of your career or already have some relevant work experience and want to further develop in the field of cost estimation and project control.

You are curious, analytical, and enjoy delving into the financial and technical side of projects. You don't need to know everything yet: more important is that you love to learn, ask questions, and want to become increasingly independent. Additionally, you have:

  • basic knowledge of construction processes and the various phases within construction projects;

  • some experience with reading, interpreting, and assessing working drawings in various construction – and design phases;

  • an affinity for project-based working;

  • preferably some knowledge of RAW specifications, SSK estimates, and integrated contract forms, such as Design & Construct (D&C) and Engineering & Construct (E&C);

  • an affinity with a political/administrative environment (this is a plus);

Because you work with drawings, cost estimates, and various types of project information, it is important that you work carefully and analytically. You can explain what you see and why you believe something needs attention. In doing so, you dare to ask questions, seek collaboration, and take responsibility for your own activities and development.

Pay & benefits

What you'll get

  • A yearly contract that, if the collaboration is enjoyed by both sides, will be converted into a contract for an indefinite period;

  • An individual choice budget of 17.05% of your gross monthly salary that you can have paid out or use to, for example, buy extra vacation days;

  • Your public transport travel expenses are fully reimbursed. You also receive an allowance for cycling and walking;

  • Ample training opportunities, personal development, and taking ownership in your work;

  • Flexible working hours, hybrid working is well facilitated, and our office building is accessible to everyone.

The role

Working at Vervoerregio Amsterdam means being able to make the real difference at an expert organization for mobility challenges. In everything we do, we work toward an accessible region for the people who live, work, learn and recreate here. Now and in the future. That calls for responsible choices that are best for people, our environment and the planet.

More than ever, in this busiest region of the country, we must provide clean and healthy transport options that fit the different areas. That is necessary to ensure that all our residents and visitors can reach their destination. That is why, together with our fourteen municipalities, we are working on a sustainably accessible region in which our travelers can travel safely, affordably, smoothly and comfortably from door to door. Would you also like to contribute to this, at one of the largest public transport clients in the Netherlands? Then read on quickly!

What you'll do

As a junior Cost Estimator, you contribute to the preparation and realization of projects that are directly visible in the region. From new cycling infrastructure and traffic engineering measures to complex public transport projects: you help ensure that investment decisions are based on reliable cost estimates and financial insights.

In your role, you will be involved in assessing and testing cost estimates for projects. In doing so, you will work together with experienced colleagues to see whether the estimated costs are realistic and fit the project. As you gain more experience, you will take on increasingly independent and complex issues.

In addition, you will be involved in:

  • assessing estimates prepared by municipalities, engineering firms, and contractors;

  • monitoring consistency in assessments;

  • supporting the determination of the financial contribution to projects, whereby you weigh not only the financial aspects but also the social contribution to policy goals such as road safety and sustainability;

  • testing whether applications comply with the applicable frameworks and regulations of the Vervoerregio;

  • preparing simple cost estimates;

  • contributing to the further development and updating of these frameworks and regulations;

  • thinking along about the financial and technical feasibility of projects;

  • contributing to keeping estimation methodologies, key figures, and standards up to date and improving them;

In this, you will work closely with internal clients and project managers. You will also have contact with municipalities, engineering firms, contractors, and other technical specialists. This way, you will get to know various projects and parties within the field well.

What do we offer you?

You will work with friendly and driven colleagues, and an informal working atmosphere prevails in the office. Our organization is constantly in motion, and your initiative and personal input are highly valued. In addition to working well and delivering quality, having fun, humor, and collegiality are highly valued by us.

We provide a working environment and a package of employment conditions that will make you happy!
