The role
Vattenfall is one of the largest energy companies in Europe. We generate electricity and heat and supply energy to millions of customers. We do this in Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Finland, and the Netherlands.
With approximately 21,000 employees, we are making a future possible in which we are less dependent on the use of fossil fuels for our energy. We are at the forefront of the transition to a sustainable energy system. To be able to achieve this ambitious goal, we are looking for talented individuals who, alongside their passion for their own role, also have a strong team spirit and want to contribute to supporting a meaningful corporate mission.
What you'll do
Do you want to apply your expertise in operational safety where it truly matters? As Lead Operational Safety & Asset Management Specialist, you will help ensure that safety is not just well-documented, but is a visible and effective part of the work every single day.
Within Operations & Asset Management, we manage and maintain power plants and technically complex production installations in the Netherlands. These installations play a vital role in a safe, reliable, and flexible energy supply and evolve alongside changes in the energy system.
As Lead Operational Safety & Asset Management Specialist, you are the dedicated H&S partner for Plant Management, Operations, Maintenance, and Asset Management. You support the operational organization in managing risks surrounding business operations, maintenance, and changes. You do not take over ownership of safety, but rather strengthen managers and teams through coaching, technical advice, and targeted verification in the field.
The focus of this role, therefore, is not behind a desk, but at our locations. There, you build relationships with the people performing the work and see firsthand what your contribution means for a safe and reliable operation.
What will you do?
You work in a technically complex industrial environment involving production installations, electrical systems, maintenance activities, overhauls, changes, and contractors. Together with our H&S specialists, you ensure cohesion, clear escalation, and a consistent application of safety processes and critical control measures.
Specifically:
- You coach and advise Plant & Asset Management, Operations, and Maintenance on operational risk assessments, work permits, securing/LOTO, critical controls, Management of Change and asset integrity.
- You are visibly present in the field. You do not just check if procedures and agreements exist, but primarily whether critical control measures are actually effective during the work.
- You lead or support incident reporting and investigation and help translate lessons from incidents and observations into concrete improvements in daily practice.
- You contribute your H&S expertise to operational reviews, maintenance preparation, changes, commissioning, and handover, working closely with others such as the Safety Specialist for Overhauls and Projects, Electrical Safety Engineer, and Occupational Hygienist.
- You provide coaching and training and help teams to continuously improve. You make the current situation transparent, bring obstacles to light, support small learning experiments, and help to close the PDCA cycle.
In doing so, you work according to principles of continuous improvement: you look at the current situation, help to define a desired future state, investigate obstacles together, and support small learning experiments. In this way, you help teams close the PDCA cycle and make improvements a sustainable part of the daily work.
What will you do?
For this position, you will regularly travel to various locations in the Netherlands. Meetings, audits, training, or temporary support at other locations may require additional travel.
