Do you want to build the data platform from the ground up for an ambitious hardware startup that is making greenhouse horticulture more sustainable? As a Senior Data Engineer, you will build and manage our data infrastructure, and mentor a junior Data Analyst/Scientist in setting up reliable, scalable data solutions.
Our product - the Thermeleon Heat Battery - is an innovative day-and-night buffer for greenhouses. It improves the energy efficiency of greenhouses by strategically reusing excess heat during the day-night cycle. This substantially reduces natural gas consumption and provides greater climate uniformity across the greenhouse. In this role, you will build the foundation on which all our data analyses and optimizations (including climate setpoint optimization) rest: from data collection and storage to a reliable, scalable data warehouse. You will work independently, but also contribute ideas about the team's setup and mentor a junior colleague.
You will set up our data warehouse: from data ingestion (data factory) to storage and processing into reliable, tested output
You will build and monitor infrastructure-as-code (version control via Git, deployment, and monitoring)
You will ensure network security and data security - no compromises can be made here
You will set up batch processing and IoT data ingestion
You will make choices in tooling (for example, Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Data Factory) that suit our scale and future plans
You will mentor a junior Data Analyst/Scientist and ensure that knowledge remains secured within the team
You will contribute ideas on translating business requirements into technical requirements
You will lay the foundation for future analyses, including the optimization of climate setpoints
Our office is located in the monumental Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam.
Thermeleon consists of an enthusiastic and diverse team driven by a sustainable ideology and a passion for greenhouse horticulture. Currently, we are in the startup phase, with measurements at the customer's high-tech greenhouse in full swing. To keep learning (from each other), we organize a 'Therming Session' every Friday to share knowledge and close out the week.
We are part of the European Union's sustainable startup innovation program (Climate-KIC) and also receive subsidies from the NWO domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (TTW) in collaboration with TU Delft.
We strive for diversity in the team! This applies to education, background, specialization, and the male/female ratio. Research shows that men feel confident enough to apply if they meet 60% of the requirements, while female candidates only apply if they tick every box. So if this role fits you but you don't feel entirely sure about the criteria: we would love to hear from you!
