Is this you and are you available from December 1st?
Then we would love to hear from you.

How you'll work

(Hilversum | 32-36 upw | dec 2026 - march 2027 | freelance)

Nice to meet you

At the NOS, you are immediately part of one of the largest news organizations in the Netherlands. Through TV, radio, online, socials, podcasts, and the NOS app, we reach millions of people daily.

At the NOS Sport editorial team, about 200 colleagues create sports news stories. Much happens on location, but the editorial office in Hilversum is also buzzing, especially around the weekends. Everyone contributes their own expertise to report on sporting events as well as possible. From athletics to swimming, from small to super large: we love sports.

What you will do

You will work on the online sports editorial team, where we create stories for our app and website, and social channels such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

You will perform the design work together with two other designers, and furthermore work together with (social) editors. Daily management falls under the head of the online sports editorial team; artistic direction is provided by the design lead.

We are looking for a freelance designer who has a passion for visual storytelling and who knows what it is like to work in a team. You will work on productions with a deadline of a day or two. Other times, they are long-running projects of one or two weeks. You have good social skills and can work independently.

What we make is for everyone. That is why we believe it is important that our editorial team is diverse and attentive to the different sides of the news. If you contribute to our diversity, we warmly invite you to apply.

Productions we are proud of

  • A slider about the Circuit Zandvoort

  • An explainer about the beautiful images of the Tour de France

  • An online article with a collage as a thumb

What we offer

The NOS is an inspiring place where social relevance, technology, and teamwork come together. You will work with passionate colleagues who bring a lot of expertise and love to learn from—and with—each other.

Due to a pregnancy, we are looking for temporary replacement.

This role can be filled on a freelance basis or on the basis of a temporary contract. We are looking for someone for 32-36 hours per week.

Freelance

  • Rate: our hourly rate is in consultation and includes VAT and travel expenses

  • Duration: 4 months

  • Number of hours: 32-36 hours per week

  • Start date: as of 1 December 2026 (up to and including March 2027)

Temporary contract is also possible

  • The role falls into scale G of our CAO* and is based on a 36-hour work week. The max. salary is € 5,056.-.

  • On top of that, €52,- gross contribution to your health insurance, 8% holiday allowance, 6% end-of-year bonus (pro rata)

  • A good pension scheme, discount on your gym membership and on the streaming service NLZIET

  • Over 5 weeks of vacation based on 36 hours per year.

Why we love working here

Enthusiastic from all sides Everywhere at the NOS, you sense the passion of your colleagues. Connect yours to it and you will notice immediately: more than interesting conversations from which you are constantly learning. And we from you.

Going for the best together
Delivering quality is the standard at the NOS. Not only from our mission, but also from sincere passion for the craft. Because top can always be even better, you are open to feedback.

Who you are

You are an experienced (online) designer who is in their element in an editorial environment. You love collaborating and contribute to constructive cooperation within the team with your accessible and energetic working attitude. You work effectively and produce quickly.

Working at NOS Sport appeals to you because of your interest in sports and to work for a large audience. You do this with a creative eye and an eye for concept, within the NOS house style.

Furthermore:

  • You have at least a few years of relevant work experience - preferably in a journalistic editorial team, but in any case in a multidisciplinary team context - with design (visual / graphic / motion and ideally also UX/UI design) and HBO-level thinking.

  • You have been working as a freelancer for some time and have worked for more clients in 2026.

  • You are at home in programs such as AfterEffects, Premiere, Illustrator, and Photoshop. A welcome addition is knowledge of programs such as ProCreate, Blender, Cinema4D, or Unity.

  • You possess a laptop with these programs. An extra monitor is available.

  • Flexible working hours are not a problem for you, because sometimes we also work on weekends and evenings when sporting events demand it.

  • You are curious, have ideas, think along, and make suggestions. You involve others in your plan and can explain choices well. You are approachable, and you actively commit yourself to collegiality and a pleasant atmosphere.

  • You are reliable and a true collaborator. You maintain a good overview, make your own planning, and are used to working with tight deadlines.

  • For you, giving, receiving, and processing feedback is a natural part of your work.
