The role
Who we are
You are the journalist who is always looking for news, can provide depth to the day, and brings urgent stories to the table.
(Hilversum | 32-36 hours pw | max. € 6103,-)
Is this you? Respond!
As one of the largest news organizations in the Netherlands, the NOS produces programs in the fields of news, sports, and (inter)national events 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We deliver this news via television, radio, and online via NOS.nl, the NOS app, and social media.
The Domestic News Desk is one of the largest editorial teams on the news floor. Within it, a team of approximately 15 editors handles the news of the day, follow-ups to the news, and original news stories for tomorrow and next week.
What you will do
Your day begins with a meeting with all domestic editors and reporters regarding the news of the day and stories that are relevant and urgent in the coming period. You pitch your own ideas, discuss journalistic questions, and the various perspectives from which you can view a story. If the news demands it, you also head out to conduct research.
Your shifts are varied: you work in the early morning, during the day, in the evening, or on the weekend. Some weeks you work shifts where you focus on the day. You work independently on a news story that is being published today. You ensure that the most important journalistic questions are answered and provide depth wherever possible. With your information, the radio or television reporter can head out for the broadcast. You write the online article yourself.
In other weeks, you have time to work on long-term topics and your own urgent news stories. In doing so, you work together with other colleagues from the domestic news desk or independently. You discuss progress with the domestic coordinators.
"An observation outside of working hours or a tip from a contact can reach a million-strong audience within hours. The variety between breaking news, searching for original follow-ups, and conducting your own research ensures that this work never gets boring." Ellen Kamphorst, Domestic Editor
