The role

As a radio editor, you recognize news like no other and want to be the first to bring it to the station.

Will you be our new colleague at the Radio 1 News? We would love to hear from you!

What you will do

(Hilversum | 32-36 hours | CAO contract | max. € 5,056.-)

You know like no other how to weave and produce stories that are or could become the news of the day. You come up with original angles for topics and know how to best convert a news story into good (live) radio. You can quickly get to the core of a news story and are able to look at the news story from different perspectives.

Two shifts are working on the Radio 1 News each day: the morning broadcast shift and the evening shift that partially sets up the broadcast for the following morning. If you have the morning shift, you start your shift at 5:00 AM: what happened during the night and morning that we can produce for the morning broadcast.

If you have the evening shift, you work on topics for the following morning. You prepare news stories, you know what a live contribution or a report needs, and you can spar with the reporter and conduct a journalistic conversation to make the story good and sharp.

"On top of the news, starting the conversation of the day and getting the latest news to the listener first. That doesn't just give a kick, but also a lot of satisfaction." - Anneke Polak, Radio 1 News editor

Delivering quality is standard at the NOS. Not only from our mission, but also from a sincere passion for the profession. Because top can always be even better, you are open to feedback. Do you grow together with your colleagues?

Your impact is great
Just imagine: everything you work on can be heard or seen by millions of Dutch people. The impact can be enormous. That is quite an honor for your work!

Who you approximately are

You are an experienced journalist with a sharp eye for domestic news stories that are urgent and relevant to a wide audience. You regularly have your own ideas for a story. You also know what is happening in current affairs and know how to devise a follow-up. Additionally, you are good (and fast) at weaving information to advance the news of the day and place it in context.

You know how to ask the most important journalistic questions for various news stories, allowing you to penetrate directly to the core of the subject. In doing so, you approach stories with an open mind and can highlight them from different perspectives. You possess a broad and active network in society, through which you can create news and effectively translate the meaning of news into a topic for a radio broadcast.

What you bring

  • You are a senior radio editor (minimum 5 years experience) who is good at making news themselves or putting urgent stories on the agenda.

  • You possess a broad and active network in society.

  • You foresee where stories and news are going to unfold, and you are able to turn them into engaging stories for our audience.

  • You know what is needed to produce a good story for radio.

  • You can work independently and also collaborate in a team, and you switch easily within the dynamics of a news organization.

NOS is there for all people in the Netherlands. Therefore, we want to stand in the middle of society. Diversity in our organization is therefore of great importance. We want to give that diversity optimal space. Therefore, we strive for an inclusive culture in the organization. If you can contribute to this, in whatever way, we cordially invite you to respond.
