The role

Are you a young academic STEM talent ready to become one of the architects of the world's most innovative simulation & training systems within the military and civil aviation world? Do you want to apply your technical knowledge to the development of groundbreaking simulation technologies or master them yourself? You will do all this with us together with a multidisciplinary team of professionals in an inspiring high-tech environment. In addition, you will receive not only the space for personal growth, but also the means to truly make an impact with our stakeholders!

The success of aviation operations is no longer determined in the air, but by the advanced simulations and training that precede them!

What you'll do

As an R&D engineer training systems, you will focus on a broad knowledge development of the very latest simulation technologies, components, and architectures, and how to subsequently smartly combine and integrate these into effective, secure, and sustainable training system solutions for aviation. This requires from you a solution-oriented and agile mindset to achieve an optimal alignment between user requirements, desired and necessary functionality, and feasibility on a technical, financial, and organizational level. In collaboration with your colleagues from the team, you will manage and connect the diverse interests of all involved stakeholders. Additionally, you will support end users in validating future and existing training systems, in order to raise these systems to a higher operational user level and ensure they comply with current aviation regulations.

From within your own team, you will regularly work together with colleagues from our other teams on various types of projects that deliver high-quality technological simulation and training solutions to end users in aviation operations. Think of (inter)national networks with - next-generation flight simulators for the joint training of pilots and other crew members in complex operational conditions, immersive XR environments for aircraft maintenance training, or supporting operational users of autonomous flying systems with AI-powered simulation systems.

You will have frequent contact and interactive work sessions with them to arrive at groundbreaking total solutions. Your enthusiasm and the will to immerse yourself in the operational world of these users is a must. You will do this not only from your desk but also with these operational users on location, and regularly together with industry and knowledge partners worldwide.

What will you do?

  • A completed university degree (WO) in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable field of study;

  • Affinity with innovative M&S technology, such as real-time simulation technology, AR/VR/MR, IoT, data and software architectures, and networks;

  • Interest in or experience with connecting systems and ensuring interoperability, for example by working with network protocols or architectures;

  • Knowledge of software development (both implementation and process-oriented);

  • Excellent communication skills, in the Dutch and English languages.

You are primarily someone who thinks in opportunities and is curious to contribute to the solution. You are social and naturally enjoy working with others. With us, you will mostly work in teams, but you possess the necessary self-direction and initiative to set your own course. You are creative, adapt quickly to new techniques, and know how to translate this into a result.

You have an advantage if you already have knowledge or experience with (military) aviation operations, or are at least willing to immerse yourself in this quickly.

What do we offer you?
