Are you looking for a challenging internship where you can make a major impact with your passion for sustainability? Then read on quickly!

SUSTAINABILITY
The food system has a major impact on the world around us. As a supermarket chain, we are an important player in this system. That is why, for years, we have been consciously committed to increasing our positive impact and reducing our negative impact. We have progressive sustainability ambitions that we fulfill by working intensively with suppliers and social organizations. For example, we look critically at the sustainability of our assortment, our use of raw materials, food waste, and the way we build our branches. Our mission is therefore: we make a healthy and sustainable lifestyle affordable and accessible to everyone. Courage and decisiveness are what set Lidl apart in this. For instance, we were the first supermarket to stop selling tobacco, all our stores in the Netherlands are off gas, we are growing our organic sales, we involve the entire organization in sustainability, and much more. Meanwhile, we focus on the sale of healthy products at a good price. This has shown for years that being a discounter can go hand in hand with sustainability and health!

What you'll do

As an intern in the Sustainability (CSR) department, you help turn our ambitions into action on the work floor. Your role revolves around creating internal engagement: you help us actively involve colleagues, from the head office to the branches, in our sustainability goals. You do this, among other things, through our internal employee program (#YOU-program). Within this program, you will work hands-on with projects that inspire colleagues to work more sustainably.

Concretely, this means:

  • You devise, initiate, and assist in the rollout and scaling up of new actions within our internally-focused sustainability program (#YOU-program).
  • You help with organizing the logistics surrounding internal sustainability activations, theme months, and workshops.
  • You support internal and external communication regarding our sustainability steps.
  • You carry out short evaluations and analyses to measure the success of our internal campaigns.
  • You are given room for your own initiative: from coming up with a new idea to putting it directly into practice.

Who are you?

You are curious and want to learn more about various sustainability themes. You are enthusiastic and have an entrepreneurial mindset. You enjoy working in a goal-oriented manner and know how to take action when necessary. You do not wait around but investigate, ask, and act. You feel at home in a no-nonsense culture and get energy from working in a dynamic environment. With your positive approach, you ensure that you can communicate your ideas well and that you easily get others on board.

Furthermore, you meet the following requirements:

  • You have an affinity with and basic knowledge of sustainability.
  • You have organizational talent and an affinity for (internal) communication.
  • You have excellent command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.
  • You are pursuing a HBO or WO degree, preferably in the direction of sustainability, communication, or business administration.
  • You are available for 4-6 months starting from February 1, 2027.

What do you get from us?

  • The unique opportunity to work towards concrete goals within a sustainability department at a large international organization.
  • A lot of responsibility and room for own initiative.
  • You will receive good guidance and an internship allowance of € 500,- gross per month based on a 40-hour work week.

We are

As the largest supermarket chain in Europe, we are active in 31 countries. In the Netherlands, we have more than 21,000 employees in 440 branches. The customer is central to us and we have an eye for sustainability, for example, by including more and more organic, animal-friendly, and sustainable products in our assortment and by building the most sustainable distribution centers in the Netherlands. That commitment also extends to our employees. Lidl ensures a healthy work-life balance, sufficient growth and development opportunities, and of course, the right reward. Additionally, diversity and inclusion are high on the agenda at Lidl, so that everyone gets equal opportunities. Together we make Lidl! #teamlidl.
