Are you a technician with a passion for complex electrical engineering and innovation?

At Component Services, we ensure that aircraft parts are available worldwide on time, in top condition, and at the best cost/quality ratio.

As a Development Engineer Avionics, you are the driving force behind new repair capabilities and innovative solutions for our avionics shops. You translate technical maintenance requirements for aircraft components into practical solutions and ensure that the maintenance process runs seamlessly. You do this in close cooperation with the other Development Engineers in the department and the technicians within the various repair shops.

What will you do?

As an Avionics Development Engineer, you primarily spend your time developing new repair capabilities; that is, developing and setting up a production line to be able to maintain, repair, test, and re-certify a complex avionics aircraft part, also known as a 'component', as an airworthy part.

The development process consists of analyzing manuals and data, consulting with manufacturers of the aircraft parts and potential suppliers of necessary tools, test benches, and materials. This phase of the process requires a true go-getter mentality to overcome all the challenges that arise.

A business case must be created to ensure that the intended capability is profitable for KLM, and once all signals are green, the new capability must also actually be implemented. In doing so, all the puzzle pieces identified during the earlier phases must also actually be developed or organized. For the latter, think of, for example, organizing the correct training for the technicians.

You also ensure overall assurance in the required documentation and systems. With your new repair procedures, we are ready for the future.

Depending on the phase in which a project is in, the focus and nature of the work shift. It is therefore important that you are flexible and can deal with the diversity of the work. We are looking for someone with in-depth knowledge of electrical engineering to tackle the technical challenges brought about by increasingly complex aircraft systems.

Furthermore

  • you perform feasibility studies;
  • you maintain close contact with suppliers and manufacturers of various components;
  • you participate in negotiations with domestic and foreign parties;
  • You translate component test requirements into requirements for the test equipment/test benches
  • You collaborate on the development of new test benches
  • You think about the automation of existing test methodologies
  • you explain to the technicians how they must perform the repair;
  • you are involved in the acceptance / takeover of new test benches and test equipment domestically and abroad;
  • you contribute ideas regarding more sustainable maintenance in the future;
  • you support the technicians and shops where necessary with technical issues in the operation.

What this function is not.

This role is not just about developing electrical (test) equipment. In addition to development, you deal with technical analyses, requirements engineering, maintenance concepts, project work, and translating technical issues into practical test solutions. It is therefore not a classic engineering function in which you work (near) full-time on PCBs or other electronic components.

You will join the Shop Engineering department (part of Component Services) at Schiphol-Oost: a dynamic environment where there is always something happening. Here you will work in a team with approximately 20 other colleagues. In addition to professionalism and teamwork, we also value development, sociability, and a dose of humor.

Your profile

You not only come up with a plan of approach with ease, but you also work it out very independently. You like to think in step-by-step plans and procedures, which allows you to approach complex projects in a structured manner. Do you see an opportunity to improve something? Then you take the initiative and get to work on it. You also switch effortlessly between different conversation partners: from technicians on the shop floor to suppliers during negotiations.

  • you have at least an HBO diploma in electrical engineering;
  • you have knowledge of and passion for electronic systems and technology;
  • affinity with automation and knowledge of project management;
  • strong analytical skills and the ability to make the right choices under operational pressure;
  • good command of Dutch and English in speech and writing;
  • preferably you have knowledge of data acquisition;
  • experience in the aviation sector or knowledge of FAA/EASA regulations is a plus.
