The role

Every year, an average of three superyachts leave the dry docks of Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw in Aalsmeer. Luxury, fully custom-built yachts that distinguish themselves through the quality of their construction, engineering, and finish.

What you'll do

Within the Painting department, our own professionals and specialized subcontractors work on the preservation and finishing of the yachts. As a quality controller, you ensure that the painting work meets the agreed specifications, quality standards, and guidelines from the paint manual. Your judgment is important for the further progress of the outfitting.

In this independent role, you will work not only at the shipyard in Aalsmeer, but also at other Feadship locations, including Slob in Papendrecht. Additionally, you will visit subcontractors at other locations where necessary, and inspections sometimes take place abroad. Your working days are varied, also outside office hours or on public holidays. Your activities consist of onboard inspections, consultation, guidance of inspections, and the preparation of reports. With your expert judgment, you fulfill an important role in the quality process and the final delivery of a Feadship. These are your most important activities:

  • During the coating process, you monitor and check whether the painting work meets the Feadship quality, specifications, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • You perform measurements and investigations, such as coating thickness measurements, gloss measurements, and DOI measurements.
  • You assess, among other things, the paintwork, the smoothness of the putty work, and the overall visual finish.
  • You carefully record measurement data, inspections, and deviations, and prepare rejection and quality reports.
  • You advise managers, colleagues, and external parties regarding materials, techniques, measurement methods, and improvements in the production process.
  • You guide independent paint inspectors and help determine whether the work can proceed to the next phase of the outfitting.
  • You manage and calibrate the measuring instruments used for the quality controls.

How you'll work

Acceptance inspections can take place outside of usual working hours, for example in the evening, on the weekend, or on a public holiday. This requires a flexible attitude.

A flexible attitude: inspections and acceptances sometimes take place unexpectedly and outside of usual working hours, meaning a 9-to-5 mentality does not suit this position.

Your contribution to the construction of a Feadship

Your skills

You work carefully and set high standards for the quality of the end result. You analyze technical deviations independently and come up with concrete proposals to improve the work or the production process. In doing so, you communicate clearly and accessibly with professionals, managers, suppliers, and subcontractors. Even when different interests converge, you remain reliable in your assessment and explain clearly on what your advice is based.
