This job advert was originally written in Dutch.
The role
We offer you an Ocean of Possibilities. Join our family.
As a Ship Maintenance Mechanic, you will work on board vessels in a versatile and varied role. You are responsible for performing all occurring (difficult) assembly tasks. Additionally, you will carry out complicated tasks on main and auxiliary equipment on board a large number of ships as instructed. The work takes place not only at the shipyard itself, but can also be on location or at the naval yard.
About us
Damen Shipyards Den Helder is a shipyard where approximately 70 people are currently employed. We find our customers in every maritime market, but especially within the government, such as the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Rijksrederij. We are part of the Damen Shiprepair division within the Damen Group.
You will join an organization where hard work is done, but where there is also plenty of laughter. We offer an informal working environment where no two days are the same and where you work together with dedicated colleagues who all share the same passion: repairing ships.
The duties
Your duties will consist of the following:
- Dismantling, assembling, repairing, and overhauling pumps, winches, propeller shafts, and rudders;
- Dismantling steering machines, aligning, among other things, pumps, engines, and gearboxes in collaboration with a specialist;
- Reading drawings, diagrams, and work orders;
- Transporting various parts and devices in and out of a ship;
- Dismantling, repairing, and assembling piping.
What we ask
- Working and thinking level at MBO 3 level;
- Advanced theoretical and practical professional knowledge of ironwork;
- Manual dexterity in various sheet metal and structural tasks;
- Knowledge of the use of measuring and setting tools;
- VCA certificate;
- You can obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG). This is a requirement, as we perform many assignments for the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Rijksrederij;
- Proficiency in the Dutch and English languages is a plus.
What we offer
At Damen Shipyards Den Helder, you will receive an independent role, with the freedom and responsibility to perform your work optimally. We are not a complex organization, but a flat organization with short lines of communication. Additionally, we offer a good package of primary and secondary employment conditions, including:
- A salary between € 3,200.-- and € 4,500.--, depending on education and work experience;
- 27 vacation days and 13 ADV days;
- Profit sharing and a good pension scheme;
- Good allowances and excellent secondary employment conditions, such as a bicycle plan, fitness allowance, and laptop allowance;
- The possibility to follow training and courses and to grow within the company;
- A varied position in a dynamic company;
- A pleasant, informal working atmosphere.
