Systems Engineer

• Excellent working knowledge of Ansible, Jenkins, Vagrant, Amazon S3, PHP, Nginx, Memcached, MySQL, Ubuntu

• Experienced in dealing with a High Availability cluster

• Familiar with CI/CD concepts and tools

• Familiar with monitoring tools like New Relic, Munin, iCynga

• Infrastructure as Code, automate and build everything as code

• Good communication skills (speaking, writing, and code documentation)

• Good creative problem-solving skills

As a Site Reliability Engineer at VC4A, no two days are the same. Each day presents an opportunity to tackle a different set of challenges and projects. The Site Reliability Engineer will collaborate with the Technical Lead and join the core development team.

The Site Reliability Engineer will demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission-critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security. The Site Reliability Engineer will apply creative problem-solving skills to develop and maintain a high-volume social platform servicing an active and growing community.

The Site Reliability Engineer reports directly to VC4A directors but also coordinates with the Technical Lead and as a member of the core development team. The position is a key player in advancing the VC4A platform.

• Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure

• Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools

• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

• Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work with developers to implement those fixes

• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies

• Supporting software engineers by building tools and developing DevOps capabilities

• Participate in the design of information and operational support systems

• Provide 2nd and 3rd level support

• Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
