Port Security Officer Hazardous Substances (HCT)

• You are physically healthy and fit to stand for long periods and climb stairs during your shift. Working at heights occasionally is no problem for you! Additionally, you possess the following: 
• Hold an mbo Security Guard 2 diploma, or be willing to obtain one 
• Proficiency in the Dutch and English languages 
• A driving license B and a car 
• You live within a 40KM radius of the Port of Rotterdam
• Possession of (or willingness to obtain):  
• VBGS (Vakbekwaamheid Behandeling Gevaarlijke Stoffen / Competence in Handling Hazardous Substances) 
• MGK (Middelbaar Gasmeetkundige Zeecontainers / Intermediate Gas Measurement Sea Containers) 
• Willingness to work with firefighting and safety equipment and breathing apparatus (no beard possible).

What we offer you

🔒 Port Security Officer Hazardous Substances (HCT)
📍 Location: Port of Rotterdam 
💰 € 17.37 and € 20.70 gross per hour excluding allowances. Completed HCT training? Scale 5. 
📅 80 to 144 hours per 4 weeks on contract

• If you are a qualified security officer, the salary starts from scale 3 -  €17.37 gross (excl. allowances). Once you have completed the HCT training, your salary increases to scale 5 according to the CAO. 
• If you are not yet a qualified security officer, the salary starts from scale 2 - €16.63 gross (excl. allowances). Once you complete both the security and HCT training, your salary increases to scale 5 according to the CAO. 
• Possibility to grow to scale 6 through experience and a supplementary training program.

As a Port Security Officer Hazardous Substances, you are the specialist who ensures safety at locations where hazardous substances are handled. You are the point of contact in the event of leaks, fire, deviations, or signals that are incorrect. Companies and emergency services alike rely on your assessment, overview, and communication. You will work together with experienced colleagues and, if necessary, follow the training program to become a Hazardous Substances Expert.  

What will you do? 

• Performing container measurements using gas detection equipment and assessing whether containers are safe to enter. 
• Supervising high-risk activities in the port area, at shipyards, and at (petro)chemical and industrial plants. 
• Monitoring compliance with Segregation Regulations for hazardous substances.
• Preventively checking for fire safety and unsafe situations. 
• Advising colleagues and third parties on the use of personal protective equipment. 
• Checking permits and compliance with safety regulations. 
• Liaising with emergency services and acting as a communication link to various parties. 
• Preparing error-free reports in Dutch and/or English.
