This job advert was originally written in Dutch.
At least three years of startup experience, as an operator, manager, or founder.
Dutch as a native language. The construction sector is strongly locally organized, so this is a requirement for the position.
You communicate clearly and easily with people from diverse backgrounds.
You are willing to literally get your hands dirty to get the job done.
You take quick action, persevere, and get things done. In this role, it is primarily about execution.
You can handle high work pressure well. On construction sites, things frequently go wrong and much is at stake. On top of that, we deploy new technology for which we do not yet know all possible malfunctions.
You think sharply and love to learn. Whatever your background, you will have to learn a lot and quickly in this role. The work can feel like a new job every three to six months. You will learn a lot about construction, robotics, and working in a fast-growing technology company.
You have experience managing a small team and know how to guide and motivate people.
You are operationally and analytically strong. You can develop a clear operational plan in a spreadsheet, present a profit and loss statement, and calculate various scenarios, including the factors that determine the result. You are a strong project manager.
Monumental automates construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous - a future in which beautiful custom buildings rise in a single day, with minimal manual labor.
Planning the logistics of a construction project. You determine how many and which robots and people are needed, coordinate with other subcontractors, and create the daily schedule. At the same time, you keep the bigger picture in mind and understand what your choices mean for the costs and revenues per project.
Leading, guiding, and motivating the team on the construction site. You maintain contact with main contractors and other stakeholders, represent Monumental, and explain what we do. You switch just as easily between scaffolding builders as with the CEOs of the largest main contractors and our engineers.
Setting up operational systems that ensure every project runs better than the previous one. You identify where time and resources are being lost, adjust processes, and improve the margin.
Collaborating with existing customers and ensuring that new construction projects arise from them. In the future, you will also do this for related product lines outside of masonry.
Taking responsibility for the profit and loss statement of your project and making proposals to continually improve the costs and revenues per project.
Assisting in the recruitment and interviewing of new robot operators and deployment operators.
Monumental is located in the center of Amsterdam, in a beautiful building with a fully equipped workshop and its own testing floor for robots. We build the entire stack in-house - hardware and software. We are explicitly not a hybrid or remote-first company: you don't build robots and walls from your kitchen table, so we work on-site five days a week.

Monumental is opening its second hub in the Netherlands: we are coming to Groningen.
This is the largest project we have ever tackled: over 100 homes (actually a small village) and a hotel. These are two separate projects running simultaneously. When they are finished, you can walk through a neighborhood with your family that you helped build yourself, with robots.
The village, Hart van Opwierde, is being rebuilt to be earthquake-resistant. Decades of gas extraction under Groningen have damaged houses throughout the region, and residents have been living in temporary housing all this time. We are proud that our robots can help them come home again.
Our mission is a future where everyone can afford a good home, in a beautiful city or a beautiful village. Groningen already knows what that looks like. From the Gothic brick walls of the Der Aa Church and the Martinikerk to the brick facade of the Academy Building: beautiful construction has been happening here for centuries. These are exactly the kinds of places where we love to build.
In recent years, Monumental has grown from a working product and the first pilot projects to building at scale. We now have a fleet of more than 150 robots, which have performed masonry for more than 90 homes, a school, a community center, a hotel, and more than 150 meters of canal wall.
Every month we take on more construction projects, which we internally call 'deployments'. We are working with more robots and more people and are expanding from the Netherlands to the United Kingdom and the US.
As Project Leader, you will set up our first location outside of the headquarters, in the north of the Netherlands. You will start with our largest construction project to date. As more projects are added, you will further expand the team and the operation.
We are looking for people who are versatile and want to lead a construction project as if it were their own company. Behind every project stands a Project Leader who is responsible from start to finish. In practice, you will fulfill five roles at once: contractor, operational manager, account manager, analyst, and project manager. You create the construction plan, execute it with your team as a subcontractor, maintain contact with the main contractor, and ensure that we deliver high-quality masonry on time. You do this in construction, where plans are constantly changing. Ultimately, you will lead multiple projects at once, including complex projects where much is at stake.
One day you are up at sunrise and heading to the construction site. You are sawing stones, monitoring the schedule, coordinating with the main contractor, and seeing your construction plan become reality stone by stone. The next day you are at our location, analyzing the profit and loss statement of your project and working on systems to achieve a better margin on the next project. You are responsible for the delivery and report bottlenecks encountered on the construction site to our R&D team.
This is intensive, practical work on-site, from which you can derive great satisfaction. Robots break, the weather turns, and the contractor changes the plan. You ensure that construction continues.
You will receive a lot of freedom and responsibility. The role is a good fit for you if you have previously founded a company, or if you are looking for an entrepreneurial role in which you have a lot of influence over the result.
Working at Monumental means being at the forefront of a movement that wants to fundamentally change the construction sector. Your work here has an impact not only on the company, but on the future of how we build. If you are driven by innovation, enjoy tackling complex challenges, and are ready to make a real difference, we would love to hear from you.
For open applications (if you don't see a role that fits exactly), you can email us at: iwanttojoin@monumental.co - tell us about the most interesting or challenging project you have worked on, why you want to work with us, and include your CV or portfolio.
Unfortunately, we are not offering any internships at this time.
Do you not meet all the requirements above, but are enthusiastic about Monumental and think you can still help us solve difficult problems? Then please get in touch. We welcome generalists who are result-oriented and love to learn on the job.
We are a growing team of engineers, operators, and technicians, coming from companies such as Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Shopify, Tesla, Meta, and Google DeepMind. We are still at the beginning of building this company, and this is your chance to make a disproportionately large impact on a problem that truly matters. From day one, you will work alongside an experienced founding team, with a $32M Series B behind us led by Khosla Ventures and Plural.
