Associate Scientist USP

You will contribute to USP (Upstream Processing) research projects for medicines. For these medicines, numerous experiments are carried out on a small scale, with the aim of supporting the production of these medicines and investigating improvements in this production process. You will support bioreactor runs with various cell lines and various products.

As such, you will be responsible for, among other things:

• USP activities on laboratory scale
• Performing supporting tasks for lab readiness, process transfer, and (analytical) method transfer
• Performing cell culture and analytical methods
• In the future, possibly supporting the introduction of new products
• Supporting the planning and execution of laboratory scale-down model establishment and satellite studies
• Optimizing USP processes, including supporting laboratory scale studies and analytical qualifications
• Accurately recording performed activities and their results. These can be presented during substantive team meetings.
• A working attitude where safety and quality are paramount in all activities
• Possible extra tasks, such as writing reports and digitalization.

This concerns a full-time on-site position.
In this position, it may occur a few times per quarter that a weekend shift must be performed.

• A completed education in biotechnology, microbiology, process technology, or life science (BSc with at least 3 years of experience or MSc with at least 1 year of experience)
• Affinity with laboratory work
• The ability to work independently
• Technical expertise with biologics drug substance upstream and downstream activities
• Experience with cell culture
• Experience with small-scale benchtop bioreactors
• Affinity with automation/digitalization is a plus
• Proven capacity to work as part of a team, but also on your own initiative
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
• Experience in or understanding of a GMP / regulated environment is a plus
• Organizational skills: the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and to recognize when an issue must be escalated.
• Familiarity with LEAN Six Sigma or DOE techniques for efficient working is a plus
• A good command of the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written
