This is what you should know about NU.nl

The role

Can you, as a reporter on the economy desk, create news for the general public? And write about societal issues in the healthcare sector and social security? Then come work with us.

We are looking for a journalist who can sink their teeth into dossiers, build a solid network, and thereby create their own news. And at NU.nl, we do that in an accessible way, with the citizen and patient in mind.

So we write about healthcare costs, waiting lists in mental healthcare, and home and nursing home care. And also much about benefits, allowances, and debts among the vulnerable. Policy and organizations do receive attention, but the most important focus lies on the impact of news on our readers.

Own news and in-depth coverage
As a reporter on the economy desk of NU.nl, you are on top of the news and switch gears quickly when something exciting happens in your dossiers. But we also want you to create your own news. There is also room for in-depth stories for which you take more time. In doing so, you use your sources and network for beautiful explanatory and service stories regarding current affairs.

In this role, you have plenty of room to go out and create investigative stories. Furthermore, you will liaise with the economy team, the central news desk, and the political reporters to brainstorm about your topics.

What makes you the perfect colleague?

With an average of 2.5 million visitors per day, NU.nl is the largest news site in the Netherlands. We are always in motion and developments move very fast. You will therefore get plenty of opportunities to develop yourself and contribute to new projects together with other colleagues.

We work on an open floor...

We work on an open floor where there is a lot of contact between various sub-desks and collaboration is encouraged. The atmosphere is informal. Everyone is encouraged to speak up and think along.
