The role

HR Officer
Location: Amsterdam
Full-time

From employment conditions and absenteeism to onboarding and HR processes: as an HR Officer, you work across the full breadth of HR. You are the first point of contact for employees and managers, ensure that the HR administration is correct, and see where processes can be made smarter. A broad HR role in which execution, improvement, and first-line advice come together.

What you'll do

As an HR Officer, you are responsible for a wide range of tasks within the HR operation. You support employees and management with daily HR issues and ensure correct and careful administration throughout the entire employee lifecycle.

Your duties include:

  • You are the first point of contact for employees regarding questions about HR policy, employment conditions, and HR processes.

  • You manage the full HR administration regarding inflow, movement, and outflow.

  • You process HR changes accurately and in a timely manner in the systems.

  • You handle and administer sickness and recovery reports, monitor that absenteeism files are up-to-date, and advise managers and employees on absenteeism. In this regard, you are the primary contact for our occupational health service provider.

  • You answer first-line questions regarding, among other things, sickness absence, parental leave, regular HR changes, and employment conditions.

  • You provide support for topics such as performance management.

  • You work closely with the Payroll Specialist and ensure timely and correct delivery of data for accurate salary processing.

  • You support the onboarding of new employees in Amsterdam and Oss.

  • You post vacancies internally and coordinate recruitment activities with our recruitment team.

  • You look critically at existing working methods and help to further streamline HR processes and better align them with the local situation in Amsterdam.

How you'll work

Your base location is Amsterdam. Occasionally, you will travel to Oss. At the beginning of 2027, the entire location site and all colleagues working there will move from Oss to Amsterdam.

This position arises due to a temporary capacity need within the HR team and is initially for 6 months. Extension or a permanent employment contract are among the options, but we cannot provide certainty about this in advance.

Who are you?

You are an HR professional who has been active for several years and has a good command of the basics of the profession. You know how important careful administration is, but also understand that HR is more than just processing. You dare to ask questions back, you can work well independently, and you bring structure to your work and to processes.

Additionally, you recognize yourself in the following:

What makes this role interesting?

This position is interesting for an HR professional who likes to combine a solid operational foundation with the space to think along about improvement. You will find yourself in an environment where you add visible value: for employees, managers, and the further professionalization of HR on location.

It is a great opportunity for someone who may want to develop further in the long term, for example towards a broader HR advisory role or business partnering, but who now primarily gets energy from a role in which content, execution, and process improvement come together. After the initial period of 6 months, it will be assessed whether extension / permanent employment is among the possibilities.

In their own words

About the company & team

At AstraZeneca Amsterdam, we bring together two research groups, in haemato-oncology and next-generation cell therapy research. Together, they form our Oncology R&D hub in the Netherlands, working closely with colleagues in the US, Canada, Spain and the UK, to develop innovative treatments for patients with cancer.

Our haematology R&D group was born as Acerta Pharma, one of the Netherlands' greatest biotech success stories. Its small-molecule BTK inhibitor has been approved by both the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the treatment of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL). In Amsterdam approximately 100 colleagues continue the development of new therapies for haematological malignancies under the AstraZeneca brand name.

AstraZeneca's Cell Therapy R&D team focuses on developing next-generation T-cell receptor (TCR) therapies targeting neoantigens in solid tumors. With a team of around 75 scientists, we work on both fully individualized and shared neo-antigen approaches, with the aim of improving outcomes for patients with cancer.

Our oncology research and development hub is anchored by our new state-of-the-art laboratories in OneHelix and the adjacent Plus Ultra Amsterdam building, both located on the Amsterdam University Medical Centre (Amsterdam UMC) campus. Our hub is firmly positioned at the heart of the Dutch research community network, creating new opportunities for our people, our science, and the patients we work to transform outcomes for.

AstraZeneca embraces diversity and equality of opportunity. We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team representing all backgrounds, with as wide a range of perspectives as possible, and harnessing industry-leading skills.
