The infrastructure of the Netherlands never stands still. On the water just as much as on the road. Locks and weirs ensure that shipping can flow safely and in a controlled manner, while bridges and traffic installations guide the traffic around them. This may seem obvious, but behind these objects lies a complex world of electrical engineering and control technology that must continue to function reliably.
As a Service Technician, you work on the maintenance and troubleshooting of objects within the Rijkswaterstaat area. You ensure that these installations continue to function as intended and thereby contribute directly to an infrastructure that literally must remain in motion.
No two days are the same. One time you are working outside at a lock installation or weir, the next time you are inside a technical room. Sometimes you resolve a fault that has just come in, sometimes you perform planned maintenance. You work largely independently, but when necessary, you team up with colleagues or subcontractors, for example during larger operations or when safety requires it.
You usually start your workday directly on location. From the Maintenance Management System (Ultimo), you see which tasks are planned and you determine the order in which you tackle them yourself. At the same time, faults can arise at any moment. In this regard, you deal with agreed response and resolution times, which means you sometimes have to switch gears immediately and adjust your planning. After resolving a fault, it may simply be that you drive on to another job nearby. That variety is characteristic of the position.
In addition to troubleshooting, you perform periodic and inspection maintenance to keep installations in good condition and extend their lifespan. You have regular contact with Rijkswaterstaat for consultation, testing, and the handover of completed work.
An important part of your work is recording what you do. In Ultimo, you register faults, analyses, and performed tasks, so that colleagues and work preparation can build upon them. You spend about a third of your time on this, often directly on location via your laptop, tablet, or phone.
It is precisely that combination of freedom, responsibility, and technical challenge that makes this work interesting. You never know how your day will unfold in the morning, and that is exactly what makes the work so incredibly enjoyable.

Who we are looking for
For this role, we are looking for someone who gets energy from practical technology and enjoys working independently within a dynamic environment. You know that no day is the same, and that very variety suits you. You can switch gears when necessary, do not get stressed easily, and maintain an overview, even when a fault comes in that requires immediate attention.
You work in a structured manner, but understand that practice sometimes requires a different approach. You think in solutions, analyze faults to their core, and take responsibility for your work. At the same time, you know when to coordinate with colleagues, work preparation, or the customer. Furthermore:
