What we're looking for

  • A working and thinking level that corresponds to a BBL-3 level education towards bankwerker, construction fitter, and other technical educations;
  • You bring theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of mechanics, ship systems, and specialist equipment, preferably gained in the maritime sector.
  • As a person, you take responsibility and are able to come up with solutions yourself for complex situations.
  • You are familiar with diverse activities, from fitting parts to the assembly of delicate tools and the use of measuring and adjusting tools.
  • You are quality-conscious and ensure order, cleanliness, and safety;
  • Good command of the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written.
  • You are flexible regarding working hours, as ship repairs cannot wait.

The role

What you'll do

  • Performing repair, refit, and conversion activities aboard ships and maritime installations.
  • Disassembling, overhauling, repairing, and assembling mechanical systems, such as propeller shafts, rudders, bow thrusters, cranes, and steering gear.
  • Reading technical drawings and diagrams, preparing work, and determining an efficient approach within the established frameworks.
  • Supporting installation and assembly activities and, where necessary, performing additional tasks outside your own field of expertise.
  • Working according to the highest standards in the areas of safety, quality, and environment, while maintaining a clean and organized workplace.

Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam (DSR) is part of the Damen Shiprepair & Conversion group, which offers a complete package of maintenance, repair, conversion, and refit services for vessels and offshore structures. Our locations in Botlek and Schiedam feature unique facilities, including extensive dry docks and specialized workshops, enabling us to execute diverse maritime projects. The role

As a Bankwerker/Mechanical Fitter within DSR, you will work in a production team of about 100 people, which can be heavily scaled up during large projects. You will work at both our location in Schiedam and in the Botlek. Depending on the project, you will work aboard a ship, in a dry dock, or in one of our workshops.

You will be involved in diverse repair / refit / conversion activities aboard ships. This includes the disassembly, repair, and reinstallation of propeller shafts, rudders, steering gear, bow thrusters, cranes, and other mechanical systems on board. In this role, you will work hierarchically under the Production Pool Coordinator. In daily practice, you will be managed by a Foreman Mechanical Fitter / Bankwerker.
