(Senior) Data Engineer

Our platform is on solid ground: the architecture is finalized, the first sources have been unlocked, and we are ready for the next phase. We are looking for a (Senior) Data Engineer who sets a high technical bar and helps ensure that data delivers structural value to the organization.

The Data & Analytics department actively contributes to the transformation of Baker Tilly. We develop data products and solutions for our internal organization for the purpose of more efficient business operations, but in addition, we also focus on data products with the goal of bringing them to market for external clients.

As a (Senior) Data Engineer, you design, build, and manage (together with the team) the data platform and the data infrastructure. You translate business needs into robust solutions and ensure that governance, security, and privacy are set up "by design."
Concretely, this means:
Building & further developing the platform

• You develop and optimize data pipelines in PySpark (and SQL where appropriate), from source unlocking to curated datasets.

• You expand the platform with multiple data sources, data models, and reusable components (standards, templates, libraries).

• You deliver datasets as reliable data products for BI and other applications (data scientists, applications, process automation).

CI/CD & engineering excellence

• You set up CI/CD for Databricks workloads and data products (tests, quality checks, deployment, version control).

• You promote engineering best practices: code reviews, branching strategy, testing, monitoring, documentation, runbooks.

Governance, security & compliance

• You work closely with stakeholders (business) as well as with Security/Privacy/Legal to align on what is possible and permitted.

• You implement measures such as row-level security, lineage/traceability, data retention, logging/auditing, and access management.

Advisory & collaboration

• You act as a sparring partner for business stakeholders: you ask the right questions, make trade-offs explicit, and translate these into future-proof technical choices.

• You identify technological developments and translate these into improvements/innovations on the platform.

• In possession of at least a HBO (higher professional education) degree focused on IT or data.

• At least 4 to 6 years of experience in a role as a Data Engineer within an organization undergoing change and growth.

• You contribute to creating a data-driven culture.

• Experience with unlocking APIs, databases, and other data sources.

• Experience with Azure Databricks or similar technologies.

• Knowledge of CI/CD and version control (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).

• Good command of the Dutch language is a hard requirement.
