The role

Impact at the intersection of business and technology.

The role

At Schuberg Philis, we work differently than most IT organizations. We deliver mission-critical IT with multidisciplinary, self-managing teams that carry full Plan-Build-Run responsibility. No handover moments, no standard blueprints, but experts who together take end-to-end responsibility for continuity, security, and real business value.

Scale, outsourcing, IT modernization, compliance pressure, AI adoption: these are just a few examples of the themes on every boardroom table today in the asset management and investment sector. As Customer Director Consulting Investment Management, you are the strategic C-level conversation partner who translates this agenda into mission-critical solutions that demonstrably create value. You move effortlessly in the world of AUM, asset classes, investment instruments, risk-return, impact investing, and front-to-back investment processes. You know how to translate this context into concrete opportunities for improvement at the intersection of efficiency, resilience, and return.

You will engage in conversations with executives, board members, and senior management at asset managers, investment institutions, and fiduciary managers. In the early stages of an engagement—from initial exploration to proof of value—you bridge the connection between their strategic agenda and Schuberg Philis' propositions in the areas of cloud, data & AI, software, and security. Whether it concerns scaling and consolidation, margin pressure, active-passive investing, the rise of private markets, or data & AI as a source of competitive advantage: you translate that ambition into tangible steps. You help them break the apparent contradiction between cost control and growth: not choosing between operational excellence or commercial success, but building an organization that is simultaneously more efficient, more resilient, and more competitive.

For many Senior Managers, Directors, and experienced Business/Technology Consultants from the asset management and investment sector, this is the perfect combination: substantive depth, strategic business issues, sector-specific dynamics and regulation, and real impact at C-level, without having to become a full-time commercial or people manager. Here, it is about craftsmanship, ownership, and building solutions that truly matter. For clients, their investors, their participants, and for the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and Germany.

You will receive the autonomy that is often lacking in large corporates: direct client relationships, short lines of communication, few internal layers, and the freedom to determine your own agenda and approach. You are a full-fledged sparring partner for CIOs, COOs, CDOs, CROs, and CFOs in the sector, and at the same time a hands-on leader in our client teams: you have one foot in the boardroom and the other in the practice of our engineers.

Your domain focus

You focus on asset managers, investment institutions, and fiduciary managers in the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and Germany. Organizations where scale, efficiency, AI, and resilience are high on the agenda due to heavy regulatory and cost pressures. You help them look ahead: what does the asset manager of the future look like, and what steps are needed today to achieve that?

Think of themes such as:

  • Operational efficiency: reduction of management costs, modernization of legacy platforms and the broader application landscape, integration between systems, and the quality and availability of data as a prerequisite for decision-making and automation.
  • Resilience & compliance: operational resilience and cyber resilience, driven by IT regulations such as DORA and the AI Act, and anchored in sector-specific laws and regulations such as MiFID II and AIFMD—you connect both worlds so that the organization is resilient and compliant at every level.
  • Data & AI: fact-based decision-making and reliable, explainable use of AI and data across front-, mid-, and back-office processes, reporting, and client communication—not as an isolated experiment, but as an integral part of daily business operations and as a means to realize strategic objectives.

You understand the dynamics of a highly concentrated market with a few large players, complex distribution chains, and stringent regulatory requirements. You are able to translate strategic choices from the board, such as scaling, consolidation, digitalization, and risk management, into roadmaps and concrete engagements in which Schuberg Philis' propositions contribute directly to their operational results.

What you will do

  • You conduct in-depth conversations with C-level and Senior management at asset managers and investment institutions to sharpen their strategic priorities, KPIs, and pain points.
  • You analyze the technical and business context of the market, the organization, the processes, and their IT landscape, including legacy, governance, risks, and opportunities for AI and automation.
  • You create insights into the key needs of clients and their investors/participants, and translate these into concrete business cases and value scenarios (e.g., impact on management costs, lead time of front-to-back processes, quality and availability of data for decision-making, and the degree of operational resilience and compliance readiness).
  • You make the translation from boardroom strategy to (innovative) mission-critical technology solutions, in close collaboration with Customer Directors, Tech Leads, Architects, and engineers.
  • You initiate and guide early-stage engagements such as assessments, design sprints, proof of value, and exploratory data and AI trajectories, applying a "show, don't tell" approach: no loose slides, but working demonstrators and tangible results.
  • You position and connect the full Schuberg proposition—cloud, software, data & AI, and security—around the client's business objectives, so that we deliver value on the three axes: efficiency, resilience, and return.
  • You act as a trusted advisor in complex decision-making processes, help stakeholders find alignment, and guide organizations in making choices with multi-year impact.

What you bring

  • You have at least 10 years of experience in an advisory, client-facing role in which you bring IT and business together—for example as an IT-Business Consultant, Management Consultant, or strategic advisor—gained in or around the asset management and/or investment sector. You know the business from the inside out: products, investment instruments, data-process chains, distribution, and regulation.
  • You have a demonstrable affinity with technology as a business enabler and know how to effortlessly bridge the gap between IT capabilities and business objectives.
  • You are substantively and analytically strong (both quantitatively and qualitatively) and able to reduce complex issues to clear choices and substantiated business cases for C-level.
  • You have experience in designing and guiding early-stage engagements (assessments, Proof of Values, workshops, design sprints) and know how to build sustainable, long-term collaborations from these entry points.
  • You have a strong network in the asset management and/or investment sector (for example at asset managers, fiduciary managers, private equity/hedge funds, and relevant industry organizations such as DUFAS) and feel at home in boardrooms, regulatory bodies, and strategic consultations.
  • You have experience with stakeholder management at CxO and Senior management levels and can bring together different interests, risk assessments, and perspectives.
  • You are a self-starter, entrepreneurial, and inspiring. You take responsibility, actively seek collaboration with colleagues and clients, and know how to create momentum—even when there is no crystallized issue or project yet.
  • You master both the Dutch and English languages at a high level, in speech and writing, and feel comfortable in formal board presentations as well as informal strategy conversations.

If you get energy from C-level conversations, connecting sector strategy with mission-critical technology, accelerating innovation, and building sustainable value in a highly regulated, critical sector, then we would love to meet you. You help asset managers and investment institutions create value without compromise on efficiency, resilience, and return—precisely where it matters most.

Everyone we work with and consider working with has a right to equal treatment. The hiring and appraisal process at Schuberg Philis is designed to be thorough and equitable, implementing fair payment, benefits, and opportunities across all demographics.

It is our desire to be a company that brings together multiple nationalities, cultures, religions, genders, abilities, and talents within and across our teams. We welcome colleagues from diverse backgrounds to join Schuberg Philis and actively support diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.
