What you'll do

You will work on challenging strategic programs and projects within the Public Sector. These include:

  • Developing, advising on, and/or realizing changes to the structure or internal organization of a ministry or public service provider;
  • Helping ministries or executive organizations with the formulation and realization of their organizational strategy or improvement agenda; or
  • Analyzing synergy potential during a merger of public organizations or organizational units.

Examples of assignments that KPMG's public sector team has worked on include: preparing and implementing a large reorganization within the Central Government; research into - and advice on - an organizational setup and strategic improvement agenda for an agency; preparing and guiding a merger and split of a housing association; and supporting the establishment of the multi-year strategy of ZBOs.

In addition to working on projects, you will work on the development of the team. You will write proposals to win new assignments and participate in training to increase your knowledge and advisory skills. You will also fulfill an important internal role: that of sparring partner and coach to less experienced colleagues. Your schedule is filled with client meetings at director and management levels, consultation with the client or KPMG assignment team, and work sessions with involved employees from your client organizations. In this role, you combine multiple assignments – sometimes for multiple clients; you maintain an overview and share your substantive knowledge with colleagues.

''The variety between contributing to the development of colleagues, diving into complex issues, and thinking along at the administrative level is what makes the role of manager so fun and challenging!''- Jasmin, Senior Manager KPMG S&O Public Sector

The public sector is not standing still: due to recent crises and the emergence of new societal issues, the government is increasingly facing complex challenges. Whether it concerns the energy transition, creating a customer-oriented government, a resilient society, livelihood security, or the shift in (political) priorities. KPMG's public sector team works daily on major issues that affect all Dutch citizens.

As part of the public sector team, you will find yourself in a challenging environment where you work together with colleagues on complex tasks, devising smart solutions for public clients. Together with the team, which consists of nearly 40 driven advisors with various backgrounds, you strive to make a positive contribution to the public sector every day.
