The role

Company Description

At FlowBeams, we are developing needle-free injection technology to make medical and cosmetic procedures safer, more comfortable, stress-free and available for everyone. Backed by numerous innovation awards and international traction (including CES), we're on a mission to replace needles with a patented and revolutionary technology! We are a spin-off from the University of Twente (Netherlands) and currently have a team of 7 employees.

The internship is part of an ongoing EIC Transition-funded MedTech innovation project focused on developing a next-generation needle-free jet injector. The project lies within the thematic area of medical devices and health technology, aiming to create a safer, more user-friendly, and scalable alternative to traditional injection methods.

Position

We are looking for a PhD intern in electrical, mechanical, or mechatronics engineering to support the development of our jet injector prototype. The internship focuses on electronics design and system integration, ensuring smooth operation across mechanical and electronic components.

The intern's expertise will be essential for designing control electronics, integrating subsystems, and conducting prototype testing and validation. This role directly contributes to advancing the prototype toward a more robust and manufacturable medical device.

Key Outcomes

Value for the Candidate

  • Gain hands-on industry experience in a medtech startup.
  • Apply PhD-level skills to real-world product development challenges.
  • Build competencies in electronics design, system integration, and prototyping.
  • Learn about medical device innovation and startup product lifecycles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine prototype electronics (sensing, actuation, control).
  • Integrate electronic and mechanical modules into a functional system.
  • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers and clinical experts to align development with project goals.

These activities are directly linked to the project's objective of moving from an early-stage prototype to a validated, integrated device.

Type of Stream

Aspiring Innovators - for PhD students seeking industry experience and exposure to MedTech startup innovation.
