Materials Laboratory Technician

Who are we looking for?
To hit the ground running as a materials laboratory technician, you have at least an MBO level of work and thinking and preferably an education in materials science or material science.

In addition, you are physically healthy, as you will regularly have to lift heavy samples (approximately 15 kg). You are meticulous and have basic computer skills. Safety, quality, and integrity are non-negotiable for you.

Who are we?
SGS INTRON, part of SGS Nederland B.V., is a company that tests, inspects, advises, and certifies in the field of construction materials and processes.

SGS INTRON has a specialist laboratory in which testing and analysis of all kinds of construction materials are central. The laboratory is accredited for most of these activities. We conduct research into application, performance, and durability. The techniques we employ in this regard are very diverse and enable us to investigate construction materials according to international guidelines and regulations.

What will you be doing?
As a materials laboratory technician, you will work in a laboratory where research is carried out daily on (construction) materials. The activities relate to safety and health aspects of many (secondary) raw materials for construction. As a materials laboratory technician, you will perform tests primarily on granular construction materials. Through this work, you contribute to the safe (re)use of these materials. Examples of tests include:

• Particle size distribution. By sieving the granulate, you determine whether the particle size distribution of the sample meets the requirements, so that a stable packing is obtained when used as a foundation.
• Composition. The crushed rubble must contain at least a certain amount of clean rubble and preferably no glass, wood, etc. You sort the samples visually by material type and check whether the requirements are met.
• Asbestos research. Through visual inspection, you determine whether there are any materials suspected of containing asbestos present in the sample. Materials that are reused must, of course, be free of asbestos.
• Other tests include, among others, the Los Angeles test, CBR value and increase, and density.
