Founding Occupational Physician

You will combine the building of Onward with the executive work as an occupational physician for our first clients, so that you are close to the practice and can directly test and improve our model.

• Medical methodology: you develop our medical vision, working methods, and protocols and monitor the quality of the medical services
• Physician team: you recruit, select, and supervise the first occupational physicians and are responsible for their substantive management
• Occupational health service requirements: you ensure that Onward meets all requirements to operate as an occupational health service, including the quality system, the complaints procedure, and the certification process
• Acquisition & implementation: you join conversations with potential clients and supervise implementation processes
• Guidance of first clients: you personally guide our first clients as an occupational physician, thereby testing our model in practice

From OpenUp, we are launching a new occupational health service, Onward. We are looking for an occupational physician who not only wants to work as a doctor but also wants to help build a new occupational health service from the ground up.

As a founding occupational physician you will become the substantive right hand of our Head of New Ventures. Together, you will build the occupational health service. You will bring the medical expertise and substantive vision and help translate this into practice: from our protocols and working methods to building a strong team of physicians and monitoring the quality of our services. At the same time, you will work with our first clients yourself, so that you can directly test and further develop our model in practice.

Onward originated from OpenUp, the online platform for preventive support in mental health and well-being. OpenUp supports over 2,000 employers and 600,000 users with 1-on-1 conversations in 45 languages, group sessions, and online modules.

From our clients, we see a need for a different way of providing occupational health services. HR wants more control over the process, the occupational physician is often distant, and the service is frequently reactive. Therefore, we are building an occupational health service that thinks along, responds quickly, and truly gets to know the organization, providing more control for HR. In January 2027, we will start with our first pilot clients.

We are not just looking for a good occupational physician, but someone who, alongside the profession of occupational physician, also enjoys engaging with strategy, processes, quality, and people. This is a role for someone who gets energy from building, improving, and entrepreneurship.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is a BIG-registered occupational physician and has at least 3-5 years of experience in occupational medicine
• Understands well which requirements and responsibilities are involved in providing occupational health services and has experience with quality policy, protocols, and certification within an occupational health service (experience with setting up or certifying an occupational health service is a plus)
• Is hands-on and enjoys rolling up their sleeves
• Is entrepreneurial and shows ownership
• Knows how to engage others and can build and coach a team
• Is strong in communication and switches easily between different stakeholders, from employee to HR and management
• Can deal well with an environment where not everything has been thought through yet and enjoys developing, testing, and adjusting together
