The role

Are you a veterinarian who gets energy from dynamics, complex cases, and intensive patient care? Do you want to not only work emergency shifts, but also further develop yourself professionally within referral and emergency veterinary medicine? Then this is your chance!

At De Tweede Lijn in Zwolle, we are looking for enthusiastic veterinarians who want to strengthen our team during evening, night, and weekend shifts - and also work during the day within the inpatient and emergency care of our referral clinic.

What you'll do

No shift is the same. No patient is standard. It is precisely that variety that makes working at De Tweede Lijn so challenging AND educational.

As an emergency veterinarian/inpatient veterinarian:

  • you treat a wide range of acute and complex patients;

  • you work both in the emergency clinic and in the inpatient department;

  • you intensively guide and monitor admitted patients;

  • you perform diagnostics, stabilization, and follow-up treatment;

  • you work closely with specialists and experienced colleagues;

  • and you continuously develop yourself within emergency and referral veterinary medicine.

The inpatient department forms an important part of the work. Here you truly learn clinical thinking, patient follow-up, and delivering intensive care. It is precisely the combination of emergency care and inpatient medicine that provides much depth and professional growth.

Additionally, you get the unique opportunity to collaborate daily with specialists in areas including internal medicine, medical imaging, surgery, and cardiology. This way, you learn not only from emergencies, but also from complex secondary-level cases and multidisciplinary collaboration.

About Dierenartsenpost Zwolle / De Tweede Lijn

Our emergency post, open in the evenings, nights, and weekends, is a partnership of primary care practices in the region and part of AniCura Referral Center De Tweede Lijn. Because of this, you work in a professional environment where knowledge sharing, collaboration, and development are central.

During shifts, you are never alone. You always work together with a veterinary technician; on weekends and during the day, there is support from administration. During workdays, you are always with the entire team of specialists, and at other times, they are available as on-call support. We do not leave you to stand alone.

Our clinic possesses extensive inpatient facilities and a growing 24-hour care structure, allowing you to deliver truly high-quality emergency and inpatient care.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a veterinarian who:

  • gets energy from a dynamic emergency environment;

  • wants to grow professionally;

  • loves variety and responsibility;

  • can work independently, but also enjoys collaborating;

  • is prepared to work evening, night, and weekend shifts on location;

  • and has a good command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.

Experience in emergency care is nice, but motivation, eagerness to learn, and enthusiasm are at least as important to us.

What do we offer?

At De Tweede Lijn, you get more than just an emergency role.

We offer:

  • a challenging combination of emergency care and inpatient medicine;

  • plenty of room to develop yourself professionally;

  • intensive collaboration with specialists;

  • an informal, open, and ambitious working atmosphere;

  • good employment conditions including a suitable salary and irregular working hours;

  • flexibility to combine this position with a job elsewhere;

  • Tailor-made onboarding process; Depending on your experience and wishes, we offer an onboarding program with guidance from a mentor

  • plenty of opportunities for internal training and guidance;

  • AND the possibility to bring your own animal to work.

Do you want to work in a place where you can truly grow within emergency and referral veterinary medicine? Where teamwork, development, and high-quality patient care are central?
